This is massive for being released in 1991. Production is good, but not as good as the follow up. Great bass and guitar work. vocals are a little weak, but they're overlooked by the massively heavy sounds.

I think this is the third leg of essential Suffocation. Even though there are many of the same songs as Effigy, they have a different feel because of the production and vocals. I actually like the vocals better on this album than any other Suffo album

I think the production, while not as thick and rich as the production on the debut full-length, sounds pretty good. It's got a little less of that filthy miasmic edge that Effigy has, but it sounds a tad more vicious and raw. Pros and cons, I guess. And vocals do sound a bit better, as theflyingmachine noted.
