They did it again. I assume this album was highly expected by about everybody who likes Nevermore. Those who hated the bad production and more straightforward thrash direction of Enemies Of Reality were probably hoping for Nevermore to take a step backwards and come back to more complex and subtle songwriting (although a few tracks such as "I, Voyager" were indeed complex). Those like me who liked Enemies Of Reality in spite of all its blatant little flaws wished they would not leave this new 'brutal' identity aside. I think This Godless Endeavor has the qualities to reconcile us all: Nevermore created again a great album, using bits of everything that made so famous and in the end released maybe not their best album - this is left to the appreciation of all of you - but, for me, the album of the year.

well, i´m not sure, but i think it´s because i simply discovered Nevermore after this release. yes i knew this band before, but very marginal. None of older songs left any flashback in my mind....maybe just "My Acid Words" . And after i heard "Emptiness Unobstructed" first time it simply came This song is best for me. .... It doesn´t mean that any of older albums are bad.
And i´m usually listening different kind of metal

Not sure that i agree with giving this album a 10, as it isn't perfect, but it sure as hell comes fucking close. Dane's vocals are obviously one of the highlights here, but the tight guitar work by none other than jeff loomis and some amazingly constructed melodies in the longer songs (as in the title track and 'The Sentient') prove this album to be an instant classic in nevermore's discography. Oh,and the title track is fucking awe-inspiring.

Dane's vocals are obviously one of the highlights here
I think that the vocals tarnish an otherwise great album. There's no power behind his voice, no grit. Not saying the vocalist isn't capable of it, he just doesn't use it. I think if Dane Warrel was to utilise the vocals he exhibits on this album optimally, they would have to be much more melodious. Despite that I do believe that there is threshold of emotion behind his voice.

That's interesting, but I see your point. I for one actually think Warrel's Dane's vocals are a great aspect of the band, but to each his own. I've heard his solo work and actually prefer the vocals in Nevermore to be honest.
