2011 should be marked down as the year of the debuts. Holy hell has there been a landslide of excellent fresh ones put out this year; TOAD, Death Valley Driver, Enthring, Smohalla, Sacred Ally, and Spellbound Dazzle are some great examples. Oh, that list is exclusively stuff I've personally reviewed, there's been dozens upon dozens that have shown their face around Metal Storm over the past year, reviewed and highlighted by other staff & elites.

Ok folks, shit just got real.
If Santa only brings your sorry ass one thing this year, pray it's The Fallen Divine's The Binding Cycle. It's a ferocious, yet melodic album that is appealing on so many levels.

Well I gave it a whirl and can honestly say it's nowt special, just another shouty/growly prog-metal album. Dead average.
Shouty? You really don't listen to much anything remotely resembling extreme metal do you? I can understand if you think it's not exactly your thing, but to dismiss it as dead average when it's clearly a genre you have no interest in in the first place seems a bit odd. If you did have some knowledge in this area perhaps your opinion of it being dead average might be considered a little more than just ignorance. Now, I know there are others who don't like this album and are into extreme metal, so can say I respect their opinions...This post however just seems like uneducated bias.
Extreme metal (and this album is not that extreme, relatively speaking) is an acquired taste, perhaps you should give that a whirl some time. Perhaps you would like this review.

He claims to be a proghead, so he probably checked this out since (if I remember correctly) you mentioned it being slightly progressive in your review.
He must have overlooked the part where you said it was also a mix of black and death.
Regardless, I agree with everything you said. I don't mind when people disagree with me, but that's like me posting on an Iron Maiden album thread saying "wtf how is this metal he doesn't even growl".

Fuck me, calm down - I gave an opinion on an album. and it's a fuckin piss-poor album at that. Now Jog on........
Who said I was getting excited? I'm merely pointing out the fact that your complaints seem to be against the genre as a whole, rather than of this specific band, and therefore should probably be dismissed by most people who can at least appreciate the different approach taken with extreme metal, if not full-on fans of it themselves.
It's like listening to a Cannibal Corpse album and dismissing it as garbage because it doesn't sound like The Eagles.

I can't see the awesomeness of this album. I can't concentrate on it. Very good background music though.

What's 'Extreme Progressive Metal' ? Never heard that term before..
Progressive metal with elements of extreme metal, most often growls. You can click the genre tag below the album name to see some more bands in the style and get the idea of how it would sound like
