Staff review by

Norwegian Gothic master, Morten Veland (ex- Tristania) is back with his new band, Sirenia, and their second release, "An Elixir for Existence".
After being kicked out of Tristania, Morten in 2002 released Sirenia's first opus, "At Sixes And Sevens", which got very good critic worldwide (at the same time Tristania's last release, didn't get as much good words).

05.11.2011 The timeless classic piece from Sirenia. This release possesses all the good qualities of its sister band Tristania and also has the well-defined features that make it different from Tristania. This album is a highlight of Sirenia's discography for it features the best characteristics Sirenia has ever managed to display. The edgy extreme side, the keyboards and strings, the choir and the unforgettable vocal performance of Henriette Bordvik make this album a true experience for all who like symphonic and Gothic style.

  So underrated!

Rating: 9 I believe this one to be the best work that Sirenia managed to put out throughout the years. An Elixir for Existence contains everything that you might wish to find on a symphonic gothic metal records: great melodies, epic choirs, brutal vocals, clean male vocals, clean female vocals... With this record the band made some improvements compared to the debut, and it's a real pity that we didn't see the continuation of this line on the subsequent albums...
