Biography

Hailing from Portugal, Pitch Black began its path under the name of Withering back in December 1995. Later, in 2001, changed name to Pitch Black.

Until now, 5 music contests won (the last one being an exclusive Metal contest sponsored by Jackson Guitars), shows with The Haunted, Hatesphere, Mastodon, Exodus, Nuclear Assault, Mortician, Occult, Grave, Internal Suffering, Enthroned, Katatonia, Finntroll, Extreme Noise Terror, Prostitute Disfigurement, Tankard, Incantation, Nargaroth, Perverse, Parricide, Panchrysia, Jungle Rot, Catastrophic, Funerus, Summon, Gorerotted, Varukers, etc, Award for best 1998 Portuguese Metal demo, participation on several compilation CDs and tapes, cover song on Portuguese band Tarantula (AFM Recs) tribute album and four tours in Portugal.

Debut CD named "Thrash Killing Machine" is released on 18th March 2005 by Portuguese label Recital Recs. It gets the reader's choice award by Loud! magazine (PT) for best 2005 album, band of the year on Thrash Never Dies (Nor) website and features the top 10 best albums on Hard N' Heavy (PT) website.

Between October 2006 and February 2007, Pitch Black records the second full-length titled "Hate Division" with Hugo Andrade (Switchtense) as guest vocals after the departure of ex-front man Pedro Gouveia (Final Mercy). Recorded at Trigger Studios by Rui Danin and produced by the band and Rui Danin, the CD will be mastered at Hansen Studios (Denmark) by Jacob Hansen (Destruction, Aborted, Hatesphere, Paradox, Nightrage). It is scheduled to be released during 2008 by Recital Recs.

The "Hate Tour" (with Hugo Andrade) starts on March 2007 and goes through 2008 all over Portugal, having the band playing once again on all Portuguese top Metal festivals like Caos Emergente, Steel Warriors Rebellion, Metal GDL, Thrashmania, Mangualde Hardmetal fest, among others, giving Pitch Black the opportunity to share the stage with Napalm Death, Onslaught, Textures, Benediction, Melechesh, Belphegor, Aborted, Watain, Dew-Scented, Destroyer 666, Avulsed, etc...

Later in 2008 Pitch Black launches a double advance audio preview of upcoming CD "Hate Division" by uploading two new songs at the official MySpace website. New album is scheduled to be released during the beginning of 2009, via Recital Recs.
