Officium Triste - Line Up Change

Once again we can inform you about a change within Officium Triste's line up. After much thought Martin has decided to quit drumming and start focusing on the synth-parts. As one of the main composers he has always had a big influence on the music and especially the synths. So, from now on he'll be doing the synths and he keeps on writing music. His decision has a lot to do with the fact he's living in Germany and he feels he cannot deliver what is needed for the band when talking about rehearsing and doing live gigs. Therefore, Martin has decided to switch to synths exclusively. This will give the band much more opportunities and we're happy to see Martin in this setting.

We are also very happy to announce that all drum duties will be taken over by Ronald Lagerwaard (ex- Imbolc, Absent Mind, Perpetual Misery) from now on. He has proven to be a great drummer and is very motivated to be part of the the tight rhythm section for Officium Triste.

Detonation - Announces New Guitarist

After playing together in the same line-up for over 10 years, Dutch melodic thrashers Detonation are now making their first ever line-up change.

The band has welcomed Danny Tunker (also Fuelblooded, The Saturnine) to the ranks to handle the guitar. This automatically means that co-founder Koen Romeijn (Guitar/Vocals) will lay down his guitar within Detonation, and that he will be focusing on the vocals only from this point on.

Commented vocalist Koen Romeijn:

We all felt the need for a change within Detonation, and I had been thinking about focusing on the vocals for quite some time now, so I decided to bring in my idea to the group. Mike, Otto and Thomas were all quite shocked that this decision came from me, but they were all positively surprised. Danny, besides being one of our closest friends, is easily one of the best guitar players in the Netherlands, and we all believe that he is the only person suitable for the job. So from now on, he will be handling my guitar parts, and I will start focusing my energy on the vocals, which without doubt will be a positive change for our live shows and performance and most important; our future albums! As for the creative aspect, I will still function as one of the songwriters for Detonation, as I have been doing since the beginning of this band, so no worries for the die-hard Detonation fans haha! I personally can't wait for Danny to join us on stage and in the writing process of our upcoming 4th album!

Commented Danny Tunker:

Detonation have been among my favourite bands for years, even before I first met them while touring the UK with Fuelblooded. We immediately hit it off on a personal level. Fast forward 2 years and I was very surprised and honoured to be asked to join them. I know this must've been a tough decision, but thanks for giving me this chance guys! Let's do this!

Dead Head - Signs With Displeased Records

Dutch brutal Thrash Metal band Dead Head signs with Displeased Records.

Expect the new full length in the summer of 2008.

Current line-up:
Tom van Dijk - vocals, bass
Ronnie van der Wey - guitar
Robbie Woning - guitar
Hans Spijker - drums

Dead Head was formed April 8th 1989 in Kampen, Holland. On that day the four original members, Tom van Dijk (bass, vocals), Robbie Woning (guitar), Ronnie van der Wey (guitar), and Hans Spijker (drums), decided to form a band and to become the most intensive and brutal thrash metal band Europe had ever seen. In the fine tradition of bands like Dark Angel, Kreator and Sadus they distilled their own way of composing songs and making a solid impact on stage by pounding out their songs as if every minute could be their last.

Over the course of nearly 18 years the band recorded several impressive full length albums, bringing their thrashing fury to new heights with each following release. While the band did several tours in the early 1990s, they picked their shows more well-considered from 1995 on. Taking their time to record each new full length, the band never felt the urge to convert into a musical assembly line. The band still likes to stick to its own pace. It's quality over quantity when it comes to Dead Head.

Previous impressive full length "Haatland" (2005) brought a refreshed interest in the band, and after good response by both reviewers and public, Displeased Records decided to contact the band. A contract was signed soon thereafter. Currently the band is in its final stages of writing new material for the new full length (working title "Depression Tank") with release date set in the summer of 2008. Some song titles are "Firegate", "Less than zero", "Murder" and "Pesticide" (a re-recorded 1989 demo track).

Middian - Support Middian For They Received A Cease And Desist Demand

As many of you know, Middian received a cease and desist demand in October from Midian of Milwaukee LLC. This demand required Middian to stop using our name completely, stop selling our album, and further demanded that all of our recorded cds and albums be destroyed. Middian was served a cease and desist by a band that has never played outside of Wisconsin, hasn't put out a single record, or had a steady line up in the last 7 years. They hadn't even updated their website since year 2000, as of a few weeks ago. We played Milwaukee in May, and no one there even mentioned a local band Midian of one "d". Nor did one of their "fans" come to the show.

Prior to this demand, we had never heard of them. Upon further research into the group, we discovered they had not used their name or trademark in years or even played outside of Wisconsin, ever. Our initial response was that our bands could peacefully co-exist. Especially since we learned that our usage combined with their non-usage entitled us to the name, rendering their trademark useless. But we felt it would be wasting everyones time and money to send the issue to litigation. Besides, before the name Middian was chosen, a careful online search was done, proving that no other active unit had the same spelling.

Instead of responding or agreeing to our offer of co-existence, they filed a federal suit against the three of us individually, our label (Metal Blade, who dropped us because of the suit), our booking agent Nanotear Booking, and an online merchandiser we had never even heard of until we saw the complaint.

We sent them word that we would give the name up and even agreed to some other demands that seemed unreasonable, simply because we're not in a financial position to fight it.

They refused to accept our settlement, demanding we pay them tens of thousands of dollars. By right of actual usage worlwide, the name Middian is ours. Regardless of that we have no choice but to FIGHT and defend ourselves in court. We intend to strip them of their trademark and deny them their unfair demands of money and of our music.

We're humbly asking for YOUR help. Spread the word far and wide, to wherever you can. If you can afford it, please donate some money to our defense fund. We're going to have A LOT of legal fees and we're simply not in a position to pay for it by ourselves.

We would like to thank everyone that has sent us messages. The underground metal community's love has simply been overwhelming.

Satyricon - Frost Breaks Leg

Satyricon performance at Arnhem Metal Meeting cancelled.
It is with deep regret we have to inform you that Frost broke his leg yesterday morning. As a result of this, our headlining performance at Arnhem Metal Meeting has been cancelled. It was a freak accident where he simply slipped on ice and snow covered surface, fell to the ground with his foot in a twisted position, and broke it. This was obviously very bad news given our scheduled show at Arnhem Metal Meeting this coming Saturday. However, with Frosts history of actually playing 10 shows in a row on our European Tour in 2003 with a broken foot, we were hoping he could pull this one off as well. Doctors said last night they wanted to keep him at the hospital over night for observation and we agreed on making a desicion as to whether he could do the show, today. Unfortunately we have been informed today that his brake is so complicated that it needs surgery which will take place shortly. They intend to keep him hospitalized for at least one week. Perhaps two.

We apologize for the inconvenience this causes to our fans and the festival. As Satyricon is also in the midst of rehearsing a new album, we will to have take an unwanted break from that. We will re-organzise and put our attention into other parts of the album-making process to ensure no delays. Have a great festival and join us in wishing Frost a speedy recovery.

Hail Of Bullets - Sign With Metal Blade Records

It's with great honour that we announce the signing of Dutch Death Metal supergroup Hail Of Bullets!

Hail Of Bullets was formed in late 2006 by former Pestilence/Asphyx singer Martin van Drunen, ex-Houwitser bass player Theo van Eekelen, Gorefest drummer Ed Warby and both Thanatos guitarists Paul Baayens and Stephan Gebédi. A mutual love for old school death metal bands like Autopsy, Bolt Thrower, Massacre, Celtic Frost and Death resulted in the idea to form a band together.

In the summer of 2007 the band recorded a four-song promo-CD in Rotterdam, which was mixed by the infamous Death Metal guru Dan Swanö in Sweden. And Swanö stated it right: "If this promo doesn't get you guys a good record deal, I will eat my laptop!"

Dan's stomach is still in good shape since Metal Blade Records didn't hesitate to sign Hail Of Bullets. The band is ready to record their debut album in February 2008. The as-yet-untitled album is expected to be released by Metal Blade Europe in May of 2008.

Hail Of Bullets are looking forward to play selected summer festivals in 2008! Stay tuned.

The whole four-song promo-cd is available for streaming at http://www.myspace.com/hailoffuckenbullets - check it out and spread the word.

"When we heard the final Swano mix of the promo, the question for me was not if we got signed at all, but more to whom. We're all very experienced musicians and we knew that we created an awful fucken heavy piece of molten metal. A smart and appropriate A & R man/woman at a high quality label recognizes this immediately. So Metal Blade didn't hesitate. Important to me was that they let us free in performing in our other bands and they didn't have a problem with that at all. Of course as a young metalkid I saw this label rising from a little company 'til the standard that it has now; the name Brian Slagel always remaining in the back of my head as one of the pioneers. Always delivering quality metal bands and never a bad word in the press from whatever what signing. The Pact is solid. We'll deliver our old school death metal supreme, Metal Blade will do the rest. We're one of the best in what we do and they're in theirs. Blades meet Bullets!" (Martin van Drunen, vocals)

"The Hail Of Bullets promo was sent out to just a handful of carefully selected record labels. Metal Blade was my personal first choice, so when they actually made us an interesting offer, it was an offer I definitely could not refuse! Many classic metal albums have been released on Metal Blade Records over the past few decades, so an old school Death Metal band signing to a classic metal label can be seen as the ultimate metal marriage forged in the fires of Hades!" (Stephan Gebédi, guitars)

Decapitated - Drummer Dies Aged 23

Drummer Witold "Vitek" Kieltyka of the Polish extreme metal band Decapitated passed away in a Russian hospital from injuries sustained in a recent road collision. He was 23 years old.

Vitek and Decapitated singer Covan (real name: Adrian Kowanek) were hurt in an accident earlier in the week involving Decapitated's tour bus and a truck carrying wood in Gomel, on the Russia/Belarus border. Both musicians reportedly sustained serious head injuries in the collision, which is believed to have been the fault of the band's driver (although this has not yet been officially confirmed).

According to the Polish Internet portal Onet.pl, Vitek underwent trepanation, a form of surgery in which a hole is drilled or scraped into the skull, and was due to be transported to a hospital in Krakow, Poland for further treatment.

Covan's family released a statement yesterday (Thursday, November 1) that the vocalist's condition had improved. At the time, the vocalist was still said to be at a hospital in Novozybkov, Russia, where he and Vitek were taken following the accident.

Detonation - New (Ancient) Track On-line

But in fact it's the oldest recording we could find . Through the Eyes of God" was recorded in the summer of 1998, when we were stilled called "Infernal Dream" and obviously much more influenced by black metal bands. The quality is pretty poor but we think it's very cool nevertheless, demonstrating how fucking "true" we were back then Check it out, it's the fifth song in our player on our MySpace profile!
