Insomnium deserve it. Thumbs up for censoring Alexi Laiho's award. EDIT: Now it's up, lol could've lived without it too.
flamesoficarus - 22.02.2010 at 12:52
God why does laiho keep on winning these awards ?
sure i love his earlier work, but bodom these days seems to reflect that he thinks he can ride on his previous work for the rest of his career ?

Musician of the year - Alexi? How? He didn't do shit. A COVER ALBUM DOESN'T COUNT!
altercuca - 22.02.2010 at 14:17
AWESOME!!! go insomnium
BloodTears - 22.02.2010 at 16:17
Insomnium won it all. Still haven't heard thir new album though.

I won't even comment on the obsession with Alexi.
Janne - 22.02.2010 at 16:21
Quite fair imo
Ulv - 22.02.2010 at 16:27
Congratulations to Tomi... his work in Amorphis is outstanding, especially on skyforger

It's coz it was an open voting. So any teenage bodom fanboy could have voted.
Anyways congragulations to Insomnium they really deserve it!

Won't say Insomnium deserves it... but I can't think of a finnish release in 2009 that tops them on top of my head other than Amorphis. Seeing that Tomi won the vocalist award, I won't complain...
WorpeX - 22.02.2010 at 17:23
Ya Amorphis! m/ Tomi is amazing.
Asitis - 22.02.2010 at 17:40
Hooray for Insomnium. They deserve it!
soadbyob - 22.02.2010 at 18:17
Damn Laiho, I never knew you could be praised for releasing a shitty cover album
Ellrohir - 22.02.2010 at 19:52
Seems even Finland lost its taste...
MetalheadSwe - 22.02.2010 at 20:13
Yeah! Insomnium and Amorphis rule.
Valaskjalf - 22.02.2010 at 23:47
To be quite honest the Finnish Albums listed arent that great, the 2009 releases werent very good. Insomnium and Amorphis were OK but at best. And yeah, why the hell does Laiho win? Sure is riding on his fame...
Troy Killjoy - 23.02.2010 at 00:32
Amoral didn't win? ...I'm shocked.
Doc Godin - 23.02.2010 at 00:54
The Laiho win is quite perplexing, I thought CoB was out of style by this point?
Odium - 23.02.2010 at 01:30
Skyforger was the album of the year...

Who cares if Laiho won? Of course you'll have a case where 50% likes the fact that he won and 50% doesn't - no surprise there. It's purely subjective... and the voting was open to anyone, regardless of informed opinions or matured taste.

I do however think some other Finnish musician, who actually released a studio album this year (2009), deserves the nomination more - but that's based on the time frame here and not Children Of Bodom's change of style and the fact that people are obsessed with Laiho.

He was and still is a very talented musician - and sure the new Children Of Bodom albums do not appeal to me anymore... they are however still skilled musicians, playing a different style then before.

It's just a shame that a lot of us, 'music lovers', sometimes feel 'threaten' by the commercial stream - there will always be people (and in most cases they're the majority) that vote or listen to music, because of peer pressure or manipulation/ brainwashing. Especially when you're young... a few years back a lot of us would've voted for Children Of Bodom's, Follow the Reaper/ Hatebreeder - but back then 'fans' of their Something Wild album would've felt that they've gone commercial and that us voters are only 'fanboys'.

Support the bands by buying their music and attending their shows when you can, I think that serves a greater purpose then all this voting?

True about Laiho still being a good musician, but the votes shouldnt be based on his potential but on his recent performance.

So it should... studio or live?

Studio Neither you nor me have seen any live bands over here in SA....let alone Chlidren of Bodom, so I cant comment on live.
Aeox - 23.02.2010 at 19:51
Our vote does not matter any way.

Ghost Brigade - Isolation Songs tops the new Insomnium easily. Amazing album, wish it received more recognition.
Laiho winning anything for 2009 is a joke.
