Into The Great Divide - New Band Featuring Mike Mangini
There's a new instrumental prog album on the horizon and it's courtesy of Into The Great Divide. In case you've never heard of them, their self-titled debut album drops on January 26th and they describe the album as an "instrumental progressive rock novel" with narration by voice actor Larry Davis, drums by Dream Theater's Mike Mangini, and produced by longtime Dream Theater and Rush producer Richard Chycki. Check out the very Dream Theaterish track "Tests & Enemies," featuring Mike Mangini below.
About the song, the band says: "The goal is for listeners to join the journey, and perhaps in the process to see progressive rock as a much more approachable musical form than they may have thought. And ultimately to experience an entirely new way of telling a story. Once you fall Into The Great Divide, you - and the world around you - may very well never be the same ever again."
The album re-interprets Joseph Campbell's classic and influential 1949 archetype The Hero's Journey. The mastermind behind it and other instrumentalists on the album are a mystery for now. Pre-orders are available here.
