Deafheaven - Debut New Song

Earlier this year, Deafheaven revealed that they were recording a new album, which is called Ordinary Corrupt Human Love and will drop on Anti Records on July 13th, 2018. The good news now is that they have already debuted a brand new track! What do they have to offer this time around? The American shoegaze/black metal group is streaming the 11-minute tune "Honeycomb".

What do you think about their first new track since the release of New Bermuda?

I think it starts out very promisingly but the song structure is incredibly anticlimactic. It should have ended around minute 4 and shouldn't have dragged on for an additional pointless 7 minutes.

I like the Dinosaur Jr. vibe in the middle (4-6). Good song but maybe too long.

Sounds pretty great to me. Excited for the new album! Loved New Bermuda and hope they continue to impress.

Indeed the middle is very Dinosaur Jr.-esque and enjoyable. The Cure/Smashing Pumpkins/Alcest vibe towards the end is cool too. The first "black metal" bit is great as well. The problem is that three pretty nice parts don't make one very good whole. It sounds disjointed and unnecessarily long.

Super cool shoegaze sound with a bit of that alternative rock like Dinosaur Jr. There a bits that remind me of Mazzy Star's dream pop stuff too. I like how they go from black metal riffing to that rock sound all in one song. This song makes the album seem promising.

Should have stopped the song at 7:27. Don't enjoy their softer instrumental outros, incomparable to a band like Alcest who do it magically.

Where's Tanner? For some reason he has a man-crush on this so overrated, shoved down our throats, average affair.

Is it me or does anyone else feel like Deafheaven reminds them of Absu? Still really like them regardless!

Wasn't too bad... But felt like the middle section was too rock/pop/punk ala MTV from the 90's. And that kind of stuff did NOT age well. It was still enjoyable though.

I liked it. But I did like New Bermuda, after finding their first two albums nowhere near as interesting as the hype expected me to

Gross. I quite liked New Bermuda but this... this is just goofy. Not a fan of the cheesy middle section.
