American metal quartet A Sound Of Thunder has released the details of a crowdfunding campaign to support its next album, entitled The Krimson Kult. The album, projected for release in the fall, will be the band's eighth studio album of original material - ninth overall, counting last year's compilation Parallel Eternity. A video accompanying the Kickstarter page introduces the project as a product borne of the past year's trials; the members announce that they will be tuning below standard for the first time, as well as using vintage gear, to give The Krimson Kult a darker, heavier, and more '70s-influenced sound than their recent albums.

The campaign was officially begun today and has already reached half of its $40,000 goal, a number given as the "breakeven" point for the project. A Sound Of Thunder has operated as an independent band for the last decade, working free of record labels and handling all business aspects of the band internally. The campaign will continue to run until the end of May and includes as rewards some of the multimedia projects the band has been involved in.
