Some people think you have to enjoy particular genres or bands etc. And I think that's all bullshit really. Doesn't matter if all you listen to is nu metal or alternative metal bands, if you've never been to a gig before, or don't dress like a typical metalhead at all. Simply loving any kind of metal music makes you a metalhead in my opinion

It's not like I don't know the origins - I've seen him interviewed about the horns and I know about its evolution from his performances. It's no longer a symbol restricted to metal fans, even though they are the ones who largely helped popularize it.

Hell, even Avril Lavigne gives the horns during her concerts.

Whoah now don't misconstrue what I said into thinking that I condone Justin Bieber fandom hehe joking of course. I have many friends that think he's the best thing since sliced bread and, like you said, they don't try to rub it in other people's faces like some metal fans do.

Another YouTube phenomenon I've noticed is the hilarious idea some people seem to have of there being an actual war between emos, metalheads and rap fans.

Yep, and the worst thing is totally uncalled for. Sometimes there is some nutjob that goes loose on metal vids telling us how its crap screeching with no talent but I don't see mainstream music listeners ever trying to gang up on the fans of some other genre of music.

The second worst thing is that it is often so ignorant. I don't like the Justin Bieber type crap either but a part of me always dies when they say that electronica isn't music because it isn't made with instruments or equate hip hop with the nigga wiggaz in da hoods MTV crap or have absolutely no idea about actual genres (probably the "screamo" I could show them is far more extreme and "inaccessible" for their tastes anyway, oh the irony, but I guess if I continue this train of thought I go into generalizations just as much as they do).

Well it's their loss anyways to restrict themselves so much, but still, I tend to avoid calling myself metalhead just to escape this stigma.

Likewise. Too many idiots have ruined the title for the rest of us. I just tell people I listen to "everything" when they ask, just so they don't assume I'm one of those elitist asshole Youtube trolls going around bashing everyone for not having the same sophisticated taste in music as me.
