"My home was cleared, history sold
Empty was my place
'Cept a picture on the wall
Of lovers in embrace."

The wind, the rain, the urban grey landscape and the thunderbolt are ingredients of a fabulous deep autumnal afternoon. They could also be components of a grandiose My Dying Bride album and I know you're not unaware of this. Especially when you start shivering to the sound of a weary church bell that so graciously managed to open the gates to a world you know you've been to before, but can always paint something different for you with the bleakest of colors.

I smell a return to their early albums. Violins, and all. That's great, hope the whole album will be like Kneel Till Doomsday.

Moderate yawn combined with nanoseconds of musical orgasm, this definitely needs more time and still I don't get the hype behind this album.

I'm not gonna rate it for now (as if anybody ever cares, though. )
It's still a lot better than Evinta IMO.

Pretty good new album. I love the second song. Hail Oddyseus, worst songtitle in MDB-albums, is pretty good as well.

Pretty good, much better than For Lies I Sire (and Evinta obviously). Can't decide whether this gets a 7 or 8 from me. Probably have to listen through it one more time.

Whole album is fucking awesome. Been waiting for this from them for a long time now--reaches back to their earlier works without being a "redo" or "recycled".

If you say "pretty good" and gives it 9, i understand why so many albums are overrated on this site..

Yeah, I'd say a 9/10 equals "amazing" or at least "great". Some might even say a 9/10 album would be considered a masterpiece, though I don't agree with that, since that'd be a 10/10.

Agreed. Pretty good is a 7. When it comes to this album my impression after one spin is just that. It is dreary, as an MBD album should be, but ...boring. Let's see if it grows

Just an average album. For Lies I Sire is definitely better than this since I've read some comments saying this is better than that, also Evinta is an abysmal album so don't even compare the two. Only song that stood out was the first one. Mildly disappointing album overall. A 6 suites it well.

So you give this album a 6/10 and basically all other albums you've rated 10/10's?

I had trouble even getting through this one. The two singles were the best songs and the rest was a bore fest. To me, it sounds like a lack of inspiration and has the same "whiny" feeling that For Lies had. I don't feel the emotion coming from the music like on previous albums. They should hang it up before it gets any worse

Darkly grim album, slow and crawling....I like it, though I find it hard to listen to, cause my beloved Grandpa died few days ago and this album is like a heavy trip to all those lovely memories, makes me so sad....but that's the thing in Doom Metal, to make you miserable....

After a decent amount of times listening to this album, I've concluded that it's a very good album, definitely better than For Lies I Sire. I also think it's better than A Line Of Deathless Kings.

My favourite tracks are Hail Odysseus and A Tapestry Scorned, but I honestly like every track, though Like A Perpetual Funeral is a little bit boring. Overall this album grew on me, so for the people who say it's boring I have the following to say: give it another chance, because for me it was boring too at first, but it became better after more listens.

I just added it to my "MDB: Best To Worst" list for anyone who's interested: http://www.metalstorm.net/users/list.php?list_id=2582

What a relief! After the latest Candlemass record I don't think that my doomy soul would be able to take another disappointment.
It's the good old My Dying Bride. The only complaint with this album is there could be more violin and violin lines could be less simplistic. The bonus track is a fine example of how that magical instrument can embellish the musical palette of the band.

I honestly would've expected you to hate it, seeing as there's plenty of gothic on this. Btw, I rate it exactly the same: a 7.5 from me.

Gothic metal isn't inherently bad to me, I think it's mostly the case when the gothic elements are overwhelmingly the primary focus of an album
