Kylesa - In The Studio

New music from Kylesa is always a good thing, right? Well, if you are a fan, you will be pleased to know that the Savannah sludge metallers are currently in the studio working on new material. It seems like the follow-up to Ultraviolet (2013) is taking shape. So far, nothing else has been revealed about the album, but at least we know that they are recording it.

Stay tuned for more updates.

Why? I've always liked sludge . As well as stoner.

Well I thought it's too mellow for you and it has female vocals, and you're not its fan, also I thought you might think that Kylesa is pretentious. I don't know why.

Well it's nice to see how much of a stereotype you think I am . If female vocals aren't done the way I hate it (operatic, whiny, or whimsical and cutesy) I'm okay with them. I don't see how could anyone say Kylesa is pretentious though. It's pretty laid back.

Yeah I got you I don't know but you gave me the impression that even they could be in your blacklisted bands for the vocals and their structure(laid back as you say). However, would you please tell me which band vocals you consider whiny ? For example, is Madder Mortem like that for you?

I haven't heard much Madder Mortem, but from what I remember those are everything but whiny. I don't know... something like that chick in The Cranberries, J-pop singers, Jack White (I know he's a guy but that's the perfect example) or anything high pitched most of the time. I can tolerate them in pop more easily since there's a shitton of effects and I turn my brain off when I listen to that kind of music. But I can't stand it in metal.

Why would someone find Kylesa pretentious? They are so chilled out seriously. Is it because of the solos?

Seriously I have no I idea, that's not my opinion either. I don't think that there's anything wrong with their solos, but aren't they hardcore oriented sludge ?

They're psychodelic-oriented in recent times.

Yes, more psychedelic, bluesy vibe than anything. But they are also really heavy so that balances it out.

I saw them last year or year before here in Seattle at a club I never would have expected them to play. Opening was Blood Ceremony another psychedelic rock band with a witch on keyboards lead vox and flute. Their record Static Tensions got many many plays on my system. I'm hoping they bring a lot of groove on this one with those two full drum kits.

And so humble when I talked to her after the gig. I asked her to cast a spell on me and she obliged.

yes. A magic spell. I remember it was at Chop Suey ( a small club which closed and is now open again). Standing around waiting for Kylesa to come on we were chatting about pulp fiction noir and the inspiration for the cover artwork where the dude is casting a magic spell or looking into a magic ball or something... anyway we were joking around and I asked her to cast a spell on me (since she is a witch) which she did.
