I can't believe nobody has started a Megadeth thread yet. Not only are they a well-known thrash band, but there's always been so much controversy around them because of the Mustaine-haters.

Have fun discussing.

well, The System Has Failed is a lot better than Cryptic Writings

Naah, "Cryptic Writings" is far from great... I'm not even sure it's good. But "The System Has Failed" is awful.

Well I disagree with you on that one cause The System Has Failed as brilliant songs such as Back In The Day (but probably great for us oldies who lived through those days) , die Dead Enough, The Scorpion, Blackmail The Universe, Kick The Chair, whereas Crypti Writings hasn't got a single one.
But United Abominations is truly a abomination

I love Blackmail The Universe (one of my all time favorites from Megadeth) and Back In The Day, it was so funny when I saw their cartoon version playing it on the Duck Dodgers episode called "In Space No One Can Hear You Rock". And well Cryptic has some cool songs like Trust and FFF, the others are far from average.

Dammit, I was going to come in here and start defending Cryptic Writings. For some reason in my head I remembered it being decent, but now that I'm looking at it I think I had that mindset simply because I love The Disintegrators. All the other songs don't really excite me on closer inspection. I wouldn't go as far as saying The World Needs A Hero was terrible either. I think if you took the top songs from each of those albums you might have half an album worth of ok stuff, not great, but not dreadful. I guess its the same feeling you have toward the GnR Use Your Illusion albums.

"Cryptic Writings" has the phenomenal "Trust".
"Die Dead Enough" and "Blackmail the Universe" are great songs, I agree. The rest of the tracks are horrible.
"United Abominations" probably has the worst Megadeth songs of all time (not counting "Risk"), except for "Sleepwalker", "Gears of War" and especially "Washington is Next!". The last one being one of Megadeth's best moments IMO.

And cryptic writings has she-wolf, almost honest, disintegrators and vortex, so that really ain't so bad album, only Megadeth album which i don't like so much is risk and maybe world needs a hero, even though on wnah plays best drummer they've had, but that's just my opinion

I kinda hate Megadeth but I consider Peace Sells one of the best albums in the genre. Just make sure you go for the remastered version. You might actually prefer SFSGSW but IMO the songwriting is a lot weaker there. I was soo happy to pick 'em up for under $9.

On the previous pages K?ulu was talking about it being more heavy metal than thrash, even moreso than RiP. I completely disagree but it's definitely among the most melodic thrash you'll find, barring Heathen, Metal Church, Agent Steel, etc.

Still haven't heard the new song(s)... I'm not expecting much.

at first i thought you meant the whole album length 44 minutes, but now i realise you are talking about the song. Weakest song in the album definitely

Heard the new album...its actually pretty damn good! Much better than United Abominations thats for sure. The lyrics, however, are pretty bad imo. The solo's are pretty crazy thanks to Chris Broderick and the production is great (thanks to Andy Sneap).

I agree with MetalSpider. A little more insight though: it sounds like a mixture of early Metallica and Megadeth + some Youthanasia. Listened to it 2 times. Nothing really awesome so far.

15 Years ago I was Megadeth number 1 Fan but since they released Cryptic Writings I stop listening to them.
Even though I always hope they can put out a decent thrash album, that never happens. I just listened to Endgame and it sounds good but there's something missing, right ... that will prabably be the most important thing in a metal record (in my modest opinion) THE FEELING . It's like going to work from 9 to 5, you dont want to but you need to make some money to pay the bills. The only recent song I listen to is Never Walk Alone, almost classic Megadeth with a F***ing great riff.

Endgame is good but how can anyone say "forget about marty Friedman when you hear Chris Broderick"????Man he is a great player but Marty was the best guitarist in Megadeth. As for the Endgame,i like it but i think United Abominations is better than this one, specialy with the lyrucs,in some parts of the lyrics i don't recognize Dave.

8.39 average rate with 102 voters is "anyone not like Endgame?" That's a good rating. That's might be even more than it deserves. I like the album, and that's a great comeback.

i dont think it deserves less,it deserves more people were comparing it to rust and countdown and it got all hyped up RIP is a perfect album but that was old megadeth, new Megadeth is just as good.. But it is a hell of a lot better than united abominations and i liked UA.Comeback? from what?
