I'd like to thing that they were reading my kind posts about their shitty vocalist and decided to improve it, but they didn't unfortunately. Song is not really that bad musically but is nothing groundbreaking.

Now I will enjoy the new Alkerdeel again because it rules.

This sounds great actually. Might be better than anything from Contradiction.

OK, everyone on MS knows you don't like their vocalist. I don't think you need to continue bringing this up.

I don't get it. The vocals are fine, and the chanty bits are actually really good.

It's also way, way more creative than the new Alkerdeel so.... I don't understand. This tune isn't amazing or anything, but it's quite solid.

I think it's pretty good. Apparently not as much as others here but it's a confident first track for sure.

Yeah, probably shouldn't lambaste this for not being groundbreaking, then cite that Alkerdeel track as being good right after it

It's certainly not ground-breaking, but it does for me exactly what I want this music to do; it fulfills a hunger I have for a certain sound--it hits the spot, so to speak.

Truthfully, I think I probably appreciate Schammasch's music a lot more than I should. Objectively, it's not particularly new, nor is it really that complex or technically impressive, but for some reason I just absolutely loved Contradiction, and I'm thoroughly enjoying this new track, too. I'm not even completely sure why. But I guess that's the thing about the subjective aspect of music--can't really help what you enjoy.

Anyway, I don't expect too many people to like this as much as I do.

I'd say Contradiction did a lot of things over the course of the album, but didn't really come across as avant-garde or even proggy so much, which is kind of a feat in itself. I think it boiled down to ultra-high quality songwriting. I didn't really drink this one in to be honest, purely because I know it's just a snippet of a bigger thing, and the whole thing will probably span a gamut of approaches, so I would rather just listen to the whole thing.

True. I liked this song a lot even on its own, though. It definitely hints at great things to come, especially since I think we can expect a huge amount of variety between the three discs. I can't say how good the album will be as a whole, but I'm assuming I'm going to love it.

I think I'm way too excited for this release, actually

I get the impression that 80% of the MS regulars having been climbing the walls in anticipation weirdly I feel subdued in my anticipation but I think that's because I haven't listened to much music recently. It's been amusing watching everyone else in hype mode though.

Never understood why people call these guys avantgarde. Even going full dissonance does not make you avantgarde these days, let alon blending it with melodies. It is not really progressive in the conventional way, either, but I think progressive black with hints of death metal is the best tag I could throw at these guys. It is indeed very interesting that they managed to create their own very distinctive sound by covering a lot of ground and not being avantgarde. They have this special sound to them, while no one can select what makes their approach distinctive.
About this track: it is very good indeed, on par with everything on contradiction, which says a lot given the fact that contradiction is had became one of my top five most player records of all time now.
