Metal Storm contributor RaduP recently interviewed Omnium Gatherum's main man Markus Vanhala who also plays in melodic death metallers Insomnium and he confirmed that they are working on new songs and a new album is planned to be released next year.

RP: You're a member of both OG and Insomnium, not just a musician but a songwriter as well. How do you manage to find the time for both of them?

MV: Good question. Well I'm having my summer vacation at the moment and I've been using it doing promos of the new album and composing new songs for the next Insomnium release, planned for next year. So I'm really workaholic when it comes to metal and I'm always on duty and it's my lifestyle to live both bands. You can do as much as you want in life, you just have to schedule and schedule it right.

I would throw Tuomas Saukkonen in the mix if we're at it anyway. Either way, Vanhala's a boss.

Not to keen on hearing that Markus is having a greater input on this album to be honest...

Judging from the two OG singles, participation in both Insomnium and OG finally got to him and his songwriting skills. Not in the good way.

And Winter's Gate was not something really standout either, even though we don't know which parts of it were written by whom.

Winters Gate was solid but at the end of the day for me personally, it can be a chore to sit through an entire album where you're forced to listen to from start to finish without skipping a track or two. I'm hopeful. Cheers

Dunno why but Markus looks like a John Travolta for me.

My thoughts exactly on Winters Gate. There are good parts and nothing about it is bad really, but if I had a choice to listen to "Down With the Sun" or the 40minute long "Winters Gate" on my 25minute drive to work...I will choose Down With the Sun every single time.

I'm with you, man. Insomnium does put out some really solid music but I can't help but feel like a lot of their songs are filler. Only a few tracks from each album really stick out to me as a unique, memorable track.

I liked Winters Gate 10 times more when I heard it live than on the actual album.

You're reading too much into it.

Not me ! Seeing them live proved a huge disappointment ! Sound mix was so shitty than only with ear plugs you could expect to recognize what song they were actually playing ! Not going to see them live in a while. :/

Sorry to hear that! The venue I saw them at had absolutely flawless sound and they played extremely well!

Winters Gate is not an album you put on if you don't have the time to listen to it, but when you set aside that time, hell that experience is great! Even greater if you have read the novel at first!
