Guns N' Roses - Release First Song In 13 Years

Although Guns N' Roses released their most recent album Chinese Democracy back in 2008, the iconic L.A. band just put out a brand new song called "Absurd", which marked the first to feature guitarist Slash and bassist Duff McKagan since The Spaghetti Incident? in 1993. "Absurd" is actually a reworked version of "Silkworms", a track that was originally written during the Chinese Democracy sessions and was first performed live back in 2001 under the latter name.

The announcement of the "Absurd" single, which also features former Guns N' Roses drummer Bryan "Brain" Mantia, comes just a few days after the band played it live for the first time since 2001 at a show in Boston last Tuesday (August 3rd), where frontman Axl Rose introduced the song to the crowd and said: "Some of you might have heard this under another name, but this is really kind of absurd to try this. Wasn't that funny? And they don't even know the joke yet. Okay, this is called 'Absurd'."

"The Quaker"
The instrumentation and the performance has the right vibe to it. But I'd have liked to hear Axl sing, not wail behind distortion.

Amazing! This is the new "You could be mine"! No one sings like Axl! What a brilliant guitar work from Slash!
...certainly not!

Yep I agree, the band is fine, but the vocals seems like rage against the machine rip-off.
I think this is just some half assed track to release something quick....

Like everyone else has said, I like the music but the vocals are terrible, especially coming from him.

Why didn't anyone stop this release in it's current form? (Referring solely to the vocals)

I thin I'll pass. Appetite came out when I was 17. What an album! I lost interest right after my first listen to Spaghetti Incident and have never looked back. Have enjoyed much of Slash's work since then though.

Why rework and rename an old song from Chinese Democracy? Only decent song on that album is Shackler's Revenge. This is just lazy and feels like a cash grab attempt But I guess they don't have it in them anymore, at least when it comes to Axl.

I know Everyone is saying the music is good and vocals are awful. I agree on the vocals but the music is the worst I've heard from Duff and Slash. The whole track is terrible.

To be fair, they say they wrote this probably around 2001 and it has tons of industrial elements which makes sense cause that time was the late peak of that genre. It's GnR if they tried trendhopping. I don't hate this, can even listen without being cringed out, but mainly cause of the playing and swing-feel Slash and Duff put in there.

Not much of a fan, TBH. I mean, honestly.... I want GnR to go on the same path as The Sisters Of Mercy, just live of good old, smashing tracks we all came to love 25+ years back and we still love them today. The end. No need for new material. I mean yea, the song is agressive, it has the energy, the guitars are killing it, but the collision between the guitars, rhythm section and vocals is just plain off. The slowed-down tempo intermezzo is just weird, I was expecting some sort of dramatic change. And as for lyrics,.... meh.

I've never been a fan of GNR tbh, so I wasn't expecting to like this song, but never did I expect it to be this bad! The vocals are the worst I've heard in a very long time, I actually found them painful to listen to.

The best thing about this, as usual is the guitar work from Slash, but even that is nothing special for such a high profile guitarest.

I know it's their first song in 13 years, but Imo it's still bad.
