I'm excited but something about that art makes me think this isn't going to be what I'd hoped.

Well this cover is better than an entire yellow cover with the band name on the upper left side, imo.

I remember really not getting the first album at all, but I really dig the new song, sounds like industrial black or something (not quite knowledgeable enough about this kinda thing to know what this falls under), and I'm now looking forward to the new album. Is the self-titled anything like this or have they made a big shift in sound, cos I feel like I would've been more receptive if it was like this?

Ah I see now, I should have read right to the end of your post =P to me this track kind of sounds like all the song styles of the debut put cohesively into one song, rather than having multiple experiments over an album. So yes, and no, I suppose.

Okay fair enough, I do remember the debut being quite varied but not really having anything that I could latch onto, I might give it another go but it's possible I need the slightly less experimental approach to enjoy it. Thanks for the reply anyway!

No prob. It's definitely weird for sure. My fave thing about it is the Blut aus Nord version of one of the songs.

A lot safer musically and similar throughout than the debut, but also a lot more up my street.

Well this album is fucking brilliant. Just as good as their debut in my opinion, and it strays enough stylistically to make it a worthy successor rather than just riding off of the hype of the previous.
Edit: After a ridiculous amount of play time, it has lost a bit of its charm. Still an exemplary instance of experimentation and crossing of genres, however I think the debut will reign supreme as Pyramids' shining moment.

Great! Experimental and beautiful. Highly atmospheric with many layers of sounds which make the mix seem pretty abstract, although guitar chords and electronic beats are specific and clear enough thanks to a great production. This material is so inspiring, evocative and surround.

Definitely something special. Like a dreamy Blut Aus Nord (the industrial/dissonant one) with Steven Wilson on vocals. This shit's weird.

The artwork put me away initially but this is highly recommended black metal, all the Blut Aus Nord mentions in this thread are indeed correct and it is really an excellent album.
