This album is fucking great. I remember finding a tape with this album on (courtesy of my father) and listening to it at 9 years old. 'The Exorcist' is one of the best death metal songs i've ever heard, and those drums are absolutely killer. A couple of weak(er) songs on here, but it doesn't take away from the fact that this really is a legendary album.

Its one of the most influential metal albums up to date. Its the very first death metal album and might very well be one of the best in the underground scene.

Fallen Angel is my favourite song on this album.

Legendary album. Possessed were definitely one of the pioneers of old school death metal. Its a pity that they didnt manage to record more albums.

That last riff in 'Holy Hell' is more strange than any Voivod riff I have ever heard.

An absolute thrash essential.Reject any thrash best of all time list without this in the top 10. Where the death metal tag comes from ask the experts, maybe the vocals inspired death metal but this is as thrash as thrash can be.

Funny to think that Larry LaLonde of Primus started his career here. The guy also co-wrote and performed the original theme song of South Park.

The Dawn of Death Metal! A great transitional album in the evolution of metal with the lyrical themes and evil riffs of Slayer's Hell Awaits (1985) as well as the menacing vocals and intricate solos that would later inspire Death's Scream Bloody Gore.

There are a lot of great moments in this release: the mesmerizing riffs of "The Exorcist" (the intro reminds me of the beginning of The Ultra-Violence title track by Death Angel), the breakdown in "Burning Hell", the guitar solos in "Evil Warriors" and "Seven Churches", the catchy, galloping riffs in "Holy Hell", the epic instrumental section of "Twisted Minds", and finally the haunting bells of "Fallen Angel"

"Pentagram" and "Satan's Curse" are weaker songs here. "Death Metal" isn't that strong either, although it gets credit for having fantastic evil lyrics and for creating the name of one of the greatest subgenres of metal!
