Sacred Reich's fourth offering (and second full-length), The American Way was yet another step forward in a more socially conscious direction, with lyrics emphasising the importance of such issues as pollution, apartheid and (supposedly) music-influenced suicide. In a way, Phil Rind has made the lyrics more understandable for the listener here, yet remaining coarse and hateful as he ever was with his voice.

A very nice thrash album. Even if the album could be a little bit more complex, i like so many songs on it.

Doesn't sound like speed thrash to me. Sounds like ploddy, mid-paced thrash. Didn't like it any way. It's stuck in 3rd gear all the way and seems to lack any decent hooks. Didn't think too much of the vocals either. '31 Flavors' was the best part of this by a mile. Could happily listen to a whole album of that.

I love it but it's not certainly speed thrash though their first one was. American Way is essentially early groove metal. Later albums were even more groove orientated.

31 Flavours is a bit of fun indeed.

I'm guessing the first album is where the "speed" part lies. Might have a look at that at some point down the line.

I found the first album slightly derivative.

I enjoyed it immensely but it was TOTAL Slayer worship. Phil Rind will even agree to that nowadays. Did an interview with him where he said as much.

From some other interviews I actually get the impression that Phil never really liked Ignorance.

I talked to him at length after the interview and he still likes it a lot but as something you'd record when you're young and impressionable.

I once got a chance to interview Dave McLain from Machine Head (and who was also in Sacred Reich).

Saw Sacred Reich at Hellfest 2009 ( I think) when Machine Head also played. And right after Machine Head's gig Dave ran over from the main stage to the tent stage where SR were playing to drum on Indepence.

Sounds kind of too slow most of the time, there may be some reason for that; maybe to give more room for the vocals and deliver the lyrics more clearly? Musically it's pretty decent album, some good riffs and overall a kind of bay area sound with some extra originality. The songwriting didn't highly impress me on this listen; most of the songs weren't killer for the whole of their length, yet I did find something good on all of them.
