Spartaaaa!! After a five-year hiatus, The Greek powerhouse that is Firewind is back in full force with a power metal concept album about the Battle of Thermopylae and Salamis in 480 BC during the second Persian invasion of Greece. Look it up, it's fascinating and a few movies were made about it.

Have to say I really hated the first song intensely - sounded like the worst kind of cheesy Euro-power metal, which considering how little The Premonition was like that kind of sound, really irked me. The rest of the album was a bit closer to what the band sounded like in its finer days, but was super generic and generally not that interesting.

This album is very solid and worth a listen. Metalium's singer provides the appropriate pipes and shines on songs like "Ode To Leonidas" & "Live And Die By The Sword" which is my favorite track on the album. The only thing keeping me from giving it a 9 is some good but not outstanding tracks. Overall, I would rank it as my 3rd favorite Firewind album after "The Premonition" & "Allegiance".
