I have a bit of a love/hate relationship with more orthodox forms of music. While I do mostly tend to prefer boldly avant garde artists that push genre boundaries, I can still appreciate a more archetypal, conventional album every now and then. Through The Window Of The Night, the sophomore effort from the Finnish Graveborne, is one such album: a savage homage to black metal's past, which, while not very original, certainly packs a punch.

We're all guilty of it, let's face it, we all bitch about originality to a great degree. While pushing the envelope is always a fun thing to hear, it's also very satisfying to hear the traditional sound maintained while simultaneously creating an immensely interesting listen. In fact, in a lot of ways that's a more difficult path to follow; how to have personality without feeling the need to reinvent the wheel.
