Aeternus - Parts Ways With Drummer

The following message was posted by frontman Ares on Aeternus' official MySpace page:

"A while ago it was decided to let S Winter go from his status as Aeternus' drummer. This due to the fact that he lives too far away from us others and it became a too big burden to have that type of slow flow in the band.
It was a shitty decision to make, but also an important one.

He's a great drummer and and truly among very few are so dedicated as he is and it made it hard to take this step. Never the less, it was done.

These days, a drummer in Bergen is under audition for a shot at the drumseat in Aeternus! He's working on some songs and will soon have a jam with the band.
Then we'll see and take it from there...

This isn't really breaking news as it didn't happen yesterday, but I wanted to wait with these news and that's just the way it!

We thank Winter for all he did, it was a hell of a lot. He was inspiring and talented and he's a great person, we wish him the very best with whatever course he puts his life in."

Aeternus - Drummer Leaves Band

Statement 07.02.2006

Greetings to you all!

Erik, the drummer of Aeternus decided to quit the band a while after the Production of "HeXaeon" was completed. He was with Aeternus from the same year as I started the band which was 1993.

His reasons were honest and understandable as we all respect his ways and opinions regarding his musical path and so forth. Erik said he simply had no more to give the style of extreme metal-music, he felt he had done enough and his passion and fire towards this type of metal style were no longer with him to the extent where it would give him something as a musician and a drummer to proceed.

Erik meant a lot to Aeternus' music and his drumming was always a part of what makes Aeternus what it is today. I will personally always be glad and honored for the time he spent in Aeternus. His skills and dedication were at 100% at all times. The way it should be. He will be missed and remembered as one of the greatest musicians I have personally ever worked with. I am glad to know that his drumming on ALL of Aeternus' released material will always be there, reminding me of a tremendously great musical Era, but first and foremost an Era that has given me SO much inspiration as a composer of extreme music. Growing as a musician with him over a period of 13 years was something very, very special that I wouldn't trade for anything.

To Erik: We'll miss you brother, as a highly skilled and dedicated drummer.

The future of Aeternus is a bit on stand-by due to his departure, but Aeternus will continue and we are looking for a replacement. This leads to the fact that gigs and whatnot are not really "around the corner" anywhere to put it that way. Replacing Erik will take time and preparing a new drummer can take time as well. Be patient. We WILL get the wheels rolling again regarding live shows.

Aeternus to enter the studio in June

Norwegian metallers AETERNUS will enter Grieghallen Studios in June to begin recording their new album, tentatively due in late 2004 through Nocturnal Art Productions. The follow-up to last year's "A Darker Monument" will once again be produced by Pytten, who has previously worked with ENSLAVED and MÖRK GRYNING, among others.

Says AETERNUS mainman Ares: "We got more or less 4 songs so far, though they are all not 100% done...working on them nearly every day. Like I've said in several interviews, it's interesting now to work on new material as we are putting weight on leaving the death metal elements behind now...though the brutality and extreme atmosphere remains. Only it's shape and face are changed to put it that way...we're experimenting quite a bit actually. Some paths we wander leads back to some elder roots too...

"A lot of the music on next album might also make you feel: 'Eh? Is this AETERNUS?'...as we are trying to explore a bit these days. Allowing us to give you more/different and interesting metal to listen to. Though we are still dedicated to darkened music/metal and don't think we'll be turning AETERNUS into some cheap crap or whatever as we SHALL and WILL always create darkened music for extreme minds! Make no mistake about that!"
