Rush - New Album Next Year

Rush have revealed that an album will be released in 2011 following a tour later this year.

The band have finally confirmed that they are in fact writing and recording a new album, following reports that they may instead release a series of one-off tracks or EPs, and they have also confirmed that they will be out on the road this year. Rush fansite Rushisaband reports that both Alex Lifeson and Geddy Lee have been speaking to US and Canadian media about the band's plans.

Geddy spoke to Akron's 97.5 Wone earlier this week, revealing: "We're kind of looking at a kind of a 2 year plan. A little bit of writing now, getting a couple of tracks down. Playing some songs in the summertime on tour that people are not familiar with as well as bringing back a whole range of older songs. And getting quickly back into the studio again and finishing the album and see what the impact of that is."

You can check that interview here.

Lee's revelation follows an interview in the Toronto Globe and Mail with Alex Lifeson, in which the guitarist said: "We were off for a year and a half, and now it's just pouring. Everything is totally crazy and there's not a minute left in the day. We've got these half-dozen songs, and we'll probably go in the studio and work on a couple of them and see how it goes, perhaps release something - and I say perhaps - and then we plan on being on the road in the middle of June. Ideally, we'd like to showcase a couple of these songs on the tour, come off tour in mid-October, go back in the studio and continue writing, then record through late this year and early next year, and then release the album in the spring of 2011 on a slightly more substantial tour. This tour will probably be about 45 dates. Most likely summer, 2011, would be more like 70."

Pretty Maids - New Album Details

Pretty Maids' new studio album Pandemonium will be released on May 14th in Europe, and June 8th in North America via Frontiers.

A 90 second snippet of the single "Little Drops of Heaven" is now available for streaming at this location.

This album also introduces keyboard player Morten Sandager as a permanent member of the band and his impact is evident on the tracks of the CD, particularly on the hauntingly melodic new single "Little Drops of Heaven" which will be released - only as a digital download, as an exclusive teaser leading to the album's release, on April 13th worldwide.

Written in the fall 2009 and recorded in the winter 2010, Pandemonium will be supported by several festival appearances during the summer of 2010 and then followed by a full scale European tour in October/November 2010.

God Dethroned - Band Update

Metal Blade Records has extended God Dethroned's contract yet again to - as the press release goes - "continue putting out some of the most intense and unique death metal albums from one of the genre's best bands".

God Dethroned will be campaigning across North America once again. This time, they'll be supporting Overkill's 25th Anniversary Killfest tour throughout April. The tour starts April 1st in Philadelphia at the Trocadero.

Metal Blade CEO Brian Slagel comments, "We are very happy to continue our long and great relationship with God Dethroned. We've been working with the band and Henri for over a decade and we look forward to more great music from them in the future!"

Henri Sattler, God Dethroned guitarist and vocalist adds, "Once you're in it, you're in it for life, the head of Metal Blade in Europe once said to me. It was already a dream come true to sign our first deal with the label back in '97, and now 13 years later we just put our signature on our third contract with them. It's just as exciting as it was back then and we're very proud of earning their trust and support after all these years."

"We are halfway through the writing process for a new album, which we will record starting end of May. First, we'll play on the Killfest tour in the U.S. supporting Overkill together with label mates Woe of Tyrants and many other great bands.

Abigail Williams' axeman Ian Jekelis will take over touring duties for Susan, with whom we parted ways last January. We will announce the name of our new shredder right before we play our first European festival in May."

Eciton - To Release New Album Next Month

Bravewords is reporting that Danish death metallers Eciton will release their new album, A Scent Of Veracity, in Denmark on April 26th, and in the rest of Europe on July 5th via Mighty Music.

Eciton was formed in 2000 by musicians that throughout the past 12 years have been involved in numerous death metal bands and projects (drummer Jesper Frost was a member of the now legendary Danish death metal band Iniquity).

In 2003 Eciton won the Danish "Melo-Death Grand Prix", then Scandinavia's biggest competition for unsigned metal bands.

Finally, Eciton's second album is ready for release after the band went through deaths as well as studio and producer changes. Eciton is taking the fast and catchy brutality to it's extremes and mixing it with technical riffing. The lyrics circle around mankind's mental condition and double standard. It's a sharp and critical look at today's political agenda where the media strongly affect opinions, all ironically depicted in the lyrics and the excellent cover artwork.

Further updates to follow. More on the band at this location.

Hammers Of Misfortune - Sign To Metal Blade Records

Metal Blade Records is pleased to announce the signing of San Francisco's progressive metal outfit Hammers Of Misfortune. Metal Blade Records will release four of the band's previous releases in late summer 2010 with a new studio album expected in 2011.

Guitarist and founding member John Cobbett says: "Metal Blade contacted us in April of 2009. After some back and forth we came to an agreement that will allow Hammers of Misfortune to continue making albums the way we always have: unsupervised and self-produced. Also, we grew up on Metal Blade releases - from Destruction and Slayer to Trouble and Fates Warning - so we feel pretty good about that."

Metal Blade's Brian Slagel adds: "We are really happy and honored to have signed Hammers of Misfortune. I have been a huge fan for awhile now and I personally am really excited to work with them."

Formed by the eclectic and versatile guitarist John Cobbett (Gwar, Ludicra, Slough Feg, Amber Asylum, Jarboe) in the late 90's, Hammers Of Misfortune started as an exercise in songwriting and making coherent full length albums making the group more of an experiment in art than your typical band. Hammers Of Misfortune is made up of some of the most talented musicians John Cobbett and co. can find. Founding member John Cobbett explains; "I set out to do it this way from the beginning. Having been in a dozen or so bands that broke up before realizing their potential, I decided that the songs and albums were the most important thing. So I formed a 'break-up proof' project that depends more on good material and strong albums than a consistent line-up."

One thing that is consistent, though, is that Hammers Of Misfortune has always consisted of John Cobbett (guitars) and Chewy Marzolo (drums) with Sigrid Sheie (keys, voice, flute) being another a long term member of the group. Bassist Max Barnett (ex-Old Grandad) has been with the group for over a year now and Hammers Of Misfortune recently added Leila Abdul-Rauf (ex-Saros) on guitar and vocals.

Come late summer 2010, Metal Blade Records will be reissuing the entire Hammers Of Misfortune back catalog.

Tristania - Return To Napalm Records

Official press release

Tristania has again joined the Napalm Records ranks. It is the return of the Gothic Metal masters, who made themselves immortal by releasing classic albums like Widow's Weeds and Beyond the Veil. A new collection of songs is tentatively scheduled for a summer release.

"We're happy to say that Tristania has reunited forces with Napalm Records. Tristania is back where it all started 13 years ago, and we are looking forward to work together with Napalm again. Our new album is completely recorded, and at the moment only mixing and mastering remains. We are totally enthusiastic about it, and feel that this album will appeal to those of you who have followed us through the years. True to tradition, the new album will also bring along several surprises and elements that are new in our musical universe. Five different singers will appear on the album, and we have already announced that Pete Johansen contributes with his brilliant violin play - for the first time since World of Glass in 2001. We are really looking forward to share this album with you guys. The album title will be revealed soon!"

Paradise Lost - Guitarist To Sit Out Tour, Select Dates Cancelled

Already last week, lead guitarist Greg Mackintosh was unable to continue with Paradise Lost's "Faith Divides Us - Death Unites Us" tour of Europe due to a terminal illness within his family. Greg's father was taken critically ill some weeks ago, yet Greg decided to commence the tour anyway in the hope that future news from home would be positive. This unfortunately was not the case, therefore (as of 6th November 2009), Greg will remain in England to support his relatives during this difficult time.

Milly Evans, (Paradise Lost's long-standing guitar technician, and keyboardist from Terrorvision), will fill in for Greg with immediate effect. Having worked with the band for many years, Milly knows Paradise Lost's repertoire far more than most, and will endeavour to provide a seamless transition between guitarists. Milly is highly regarded among Paradise Lost's fan-base and is the best person to fill Greg's role in the band for the rest of the European tour.

The band commented: "We apologise in advance to those of you who will be joining us for the European dates and will no doubt be disappointed by Greg's absence. However, I am sure you will appreciate this unfortunate situation was unavoidable and everyone is doing everything they can to ensure the shows run as smoothly as possible."

Now the band has announced the following: "As some of you maybe aware, we have had to use a stand in guitarist (Milly Evans) to replace Greg Mackintosh for a few dates due to a serious illness within Greg's family. We did this with the sole purpose to prevent having to cancel any shows and to avoid disappointing fans that had already bought tickets and were looking forward to the concerts.

So it is with great regret that we have to unavoidably announce that some gigs must be postponed for now and rescheduled as soon as possible. This is due to prior commitments Milly Evans has with his own band. We are working round these to fly him back and forth wherever possible to minimise any disruption to the tour, but we ask you to bear with us in this difficult time. The list of gigs to be postponed are as follows:

03rd Dec - Romania
04th Dec - Bulgaria
05th Dec - Croatia
10th Dec - Switzerland
11th Dec - Germany
12th Dec - Switzerland

If there are any further up-dates we will bring them to you as soon as possible. Thanks again for your understanding."

Atrocity - New Album Featuring Frontman Alex Krull's Sister In The Works

Official press release

On November 13th the Beauty & The Beast tour starts! Atrocity will play special Werk 80 shows on that great festival tour!

While the band is preparing for the European run there is some great news to be announced: Atrocity are recording a new record. It will be a project album featuring frontman Alex Krull's sister Yasmin, and it will be out next year.

The collaboration with Yasmin started previously on Atrocity's legendary Blut album (1994) where Alex's sister was doing guest vocals. In 1995 the mystical and very special Atrocity featuring Yasmin Calling The Rain mini album was released, and became a success. Calling The Rain contained mainly acoustic songs which was a completly new aspect of making music for a death metal band in that time. As no other band was playing that kind of music, it was simply called Ethno Metal.

"A funny name for creating a kind of metal nobody had a name for. As we are a metal act and playing with Yasmin songs influenced by Ethno and World music, it's ok to me, although I don't like categories," states Alex Krull.

The last Atrocity featuring Yasmin song recorded was "Desert Land" for the first Orkus Compilation in 1999. Since then fans kept on waiting for new material and asking for a new official release of Atrocity featuring Yasmin. Last year Calling The Rain was re-released on Napalm Records.

After the Top 20 album Werk 80 II was released, Atrocity announced that the new record will be totally different again and another special project album with Yasmin. Through the years Atrocity wrote new songs for the new album with Yasmin. The production is in full swing and drummer Seven Antonopoulos has completed his drum tracks. On this album Seven utilzed a great amount of different percussion instruments.

Seven Antonopoulos: ''I really had fun tracking this record. Nowadays records are so over produced and slick sounding. It was nice to get in the studio and use organic drum sounds as well as a ton of percussion instruments. For the drums I played a 5 piece PDP kit and we used a few different DW wood snares. The 8' edge Collectors series was the main one though. A couple years ago I started experimenting with different kinds of percussion. On this record I used a cajon on almost all the tunes. As well as congas, bongos, timbales and all kinds of Rhythm Tech shakers and tambourines. Again, it was so refreshing to utilize natural instruments in a recording situation. I think the fans will be taking by the whole vibe and mood of the tracks. This was my first time to work with Yasmin. She has a great voice and it was a real treat to see how she interpreted the songs. At this point I've been playing with Leaves' Eyes / Atrocity for a year. So, the studio process is pretty much second nature. All in all I'm proud of the work on the record, and I can't wait to hear the final mixes.''
