Tristania - Part Ways With Bassist, Replacement

Tristania have issued the following update:

"As you all know, original bassist Rune Østerhus has only played a few shows with Tristania during the last years. Due to him not being able or motivated to tour we've been using a session musician on bass for our tours in the last couple of years (Kjell Hagen, ex-Trail Of Tears). In addition, Rune became a father last year. As a result of this, both Rune and the rest of the band agreed that it was time to find a new bass player. Tristania would like to thank Rune for the great years we had in Tristania together and we wish him all the best for the future.

At the same time, we are delighted to announce the new bass player in Tristania; Ole Vistnes. We first started to work with Ole about a year ago, and it worked out great in every way. Some of you have already seen Ole on stage with us last year. The rest of you will surely get the opportunity to do so during the upcoming tours in 2009. Ole is an amazing bassist, who has a degree in his instrument from the University in Kristiansand. He is a great guy that fits perfectly into the Tristania family. In addition, he is a skilled composer and has been heavily involved in the songwriting for the upcoming album.

Some words from Ole: "As some of you may already know, I have been touring with Tristania for one year now. Permanent member from end of the last tour in South America, and involved in composing this fall. Let me express my gratitude towards first and foremost the guys in the band, for giving me such a warm welcome in the band. Never a single day did I feel like "the new guy". I approach the challenge of playing bass in Tristania with humility and respect for the work of Rune, but I am also given the freedom to be Ole, and not having to be a constant copy. This combination of true respect for previous deeds and eagerness to move on, is the balance that keeps the classic work alive, but also empowers growth and evolvement. I will also use this opportunity to thank guitars Anders Høyvik Hidle and keyboard player Einar Moen for involving me heavily in the composing. They have truly boosted my self confidence and creative muscles with their great support and encouragement. And I would like to thank our fans. I have already met quite a few of you, and your enthusiasm and love for Tristania's music is overwhelming."

Primordial - Re-Issue CD And Bonus DVD Details

Metal Blade Records press release

Metal Blade and Primordial have decided to upgrade the upcoming re-issue of "Imrama" a bit, so now there won't be a bonus CD, but a bonus DVD included. The DVD comes from the fathomless pits of singer A.A. Nemtheanga's cave and is pure gold for any Primordial lunatic since it includes a live recording from 1994 in Cork City, Ireland. The DVD also features an audio commentary by A.A. Nemtheanga talking about the early days of the band and the gig in particular.

Recorded in late 1994, "Imrama" was originally released by Cacophonous Records in the autumn of 1995, already displaying Primordial's sense for overwhelming melodies, epic drama and total commitment, wrapped in a raw sound with a much stronger black metal influence than the band shows nowadays. The re-issue comes as a CD/DVD package including the remastered album plus unreleased demos and live recordings, packaged in a precious black linen slipcase with glossy golden hot foil print, containing a six-page Digipak with the original artwork, the two discs and a 16-page booklet with new liner notes and additional photos. Mandatory for any self-respecting heathen!

Zimmers Hole - Former Guitarist Dies

Zimmers Hole guitarist Jed Simon has posted the following blog on the band's MySpace page regarding the death of former guitarist Chris Stanley:

"I don't know where or how to start... other than to say we are all deeply saddened at the loss of one of our own, Chris Stanley. Chris is a Zimmers Hole alumni, he played guitar for us during the "Legion Of Flames" era, and more zany moments occurred when he was around than I care to try and remember. He has had a long battle with the many complications, and the day-to-day life battles with Cystic Fibrosis, Pneumonia (many times), a double lung transplant and the myriad of issues that arise with that. He has battled back so many times, and it just crushes our hearts that he couldn't pull through this time.

Here are some words from me... I know the other guys will agree with me on all this stuff. They may want to write their own thoughts in the coming days. With unbelievable sadness, we've lost another soldier. Chris Stanley, fuck... as I type this it all seems too unreal to me, but I know better. It's going to hurt even more, soon. Chris has been a friend to me for over 20 years. He's been a friend, a mentor, and a peer. He was one talented motherfucker, that's for sure. Add to that, funny - that guy could get a crowd onto a frenzy of laughter... a certain moment from the Dynamo festival and Chris acting a little too retarded comes to mind. Add to that, whipcrackin' smart... he KNEW shit.

What he has left is a legacy of music, laughter, artwork and special effects, movie props, funny pictures, not funny pictures, nuns running scared everywhere, and more stuff than I could ever get into here. But it's all in my head, and it will all never be forgotten. I MISS YOU SO MUCH ALREADY CHRIS.

To Scarlet, his wife, and to all of his family, my condolences... I know how much he meant to me, I can't begin to imagine how much he meant to you. All my love.

My trusty old Gibson flying V has your flames on it... they will always be there bro... and every time I look at that guitar(as I am right now), or pick it up and hammer the fuck out of it, you are with me Chris. With Horns Higher than I've ever Held them, I love ya man. We all fuckin love ya man. Wherever you go from here brother, I know that you will raise the bar, and a few eyebrows... heavenly or otherwise."

Naildown - Norther Drummer Joins The Band

Finnish band Naildown has issued the following update about the addition of a new drummer:

"Naildown welcomes drummer Heikki Saari to the band as a full-time member. The band comments: "We were really impressed by Heikki's skills in live action the first time we shared a stage with Norther back in 2006. And now a couple of years later we are really happy that a skillful drummer like Heikki is joining our line-up."

Saari adds: "When I heard that there was a drummers' seat free in Naildown, I immediately reported in. And later Daniel called me and asked if I could join the band as a full-time member. After hearing the demos of the upcoming album, I couldn't resist it! The songs are killers and they really put the drummer in a sticky situation. That's why I got interested in the first place! I've also been listening to Naildown since "World Domination" and always liked the bands discography in it's full! Also I'd met all the guys before and we got along really well, so there was absolutely no chance that I could say No to Daniel's request.

For me Naildown really is a challenge. I've got all new power for practicing my playing, which I've been doing a lot lately. The next album is also going to be a killer! I can't wait to get to the studio and start banging drumskins like a goddamn animal. I really can't wait for the upcoming shows! This is the beginning of a new era for me and the whole band!"

To answer challenging questions, Heikki will be available for a meet at Finnish Metal Expo 2009, Pearl/Soundstore -stand on Friday 13.2.2009 starting 18:15 cet, and on Saturday 14.2.2009 20:45 cet."
