Aborted - Two New Songs Online

Century Media press release:

"Mankind's sense for creativity probably manifests best in the sheer unlimited ways of torturing, mutilating, and killing each other. Successfully applying this atrocious inventiveness to their perversely precise sonic executions, "European death metal butchers" Aborted with members hailing from Belgium, France & UK have refined and re-defined the tools of their trade on their sixth full-length "Strychnine.213" to murder the listener with unimaginably gruesome, shockingly diverse brutality.

Besides the macabre cover artwork by Colin Marks / Rain Song, Aborted now present you two new songs from their stunning follow-up to 2007's much-lauded Century Media debut "Slaughter & Apparatus: A Methodical Overture" at their revamped MySpace site.

"I35" demonstrates how Aborted have successfully increased the modern, darker and surprisingly dynamic and melodic elements of their sound, whereas "Pestiferous Subterfuge" is another brutal groove monster, heavy to the max! Listen to them now at http://www.myspace.com/abortedmetal.

Combining the band's undeniable live energy with a powerhouse production from Eric Rachel (The Red Chord, The Black Dahlia Murder, God Forbid etc.) and a "fuck you' rock'n roll" approach to the overly edited, sterile sounding death metal records of today, Aborted succeed in retaining their vicious roots while evolving in terms of melody, musical virtuosity and vigor.

"Strychnine.213" reinforces the notion that Aborted have doubtlessly developed into extreme metal's most promising new breed. In Aborted's degenerated worldview murder is fun and you will be delighted to be killed by their new aural toxin?"

Chaosanct - New Band Featuring Ex-COF Guitarist And Ex-Biomechanical Drummer

Chaosanct are the latest UK based metal act which features among it's members former Cradle Of Filth guitarist James McIlroy and former Biomechanical drummer Matt C.

The complete Chaosanct is:

James McIlroy - Guitar
Matt C - Drums
Dave R Kuchta - Vocals
Andrew Ongley - Guitar
Tilman Wolff-Moore - Bass

Chaosanct as an entity has been in existence since January '08. Having jammed together way back in the mists of time, a chance re-union at an infamous London Venue saw Andy & James decide to team up and put together something new & exciting. Devoid of all the headaches and difficulties of previous projects, this project has come to embody a sense of freedom and a desire to excel

The search was on to find the right members, people with passion, understanding & drive to succeed. First Dave brought his individual vocal style to the table, having known James for a number of years. On Daves recommendation, Tilman also joined to handle bass duties. Finally in early '08, on the recommendation of Adrian Erlandsson (At the Gates, The Haunted, Cradle of Filth), Matt completed the rhythm section on drums.

Having completed a 4 track industry demo, work is continuing at a heady pace. Keep your eyes peeled in the coming months for exciting revelations and incendiary live shows.

Annihilator - First Live Album To Be Remastered

Metal Mind Productions press release:

"For many fans Annihilator was always the silent hero of thrash metal. They never got the same attention as Megadeth, Metallica or Slayer, but when musical critics predicted the end of thrash metal by the end of the 80's, they shut their mouths with one of the most intense thrash metal releases ever - "Alice In Hell". The album was a brilliant mixture of melody, power and aggression - everything a thrash metal band could ever wish for in their debut. Annihilator's next offering, "Never, Neverland", was proof that the debut was not made by accident - the album delivered the same amount of sheer thrash madness, backed by some extremely melodic riffs and solos. After these two releases the group continued their career with various line-up changes (eventually leaving guitarist Jeff Waters the only original member), but every album recorded after 1990 had a totally different vibe than the first two releases. Perhaps that was the reason why in 1996 Roadrunner Records decided to put out a live album covering the period from 1989 to 1990, by many fans considered Annihilator's strongest years. "In Command" brilliantly captures the band at the beginning of their musical voyage, when all that mattered was the joy of playing thrash metal and kicking some ass!

Annihilator's live LP to this day remains an unforgettable musical experience, perfectly capturing the power and the energy of this unique thrash phenomenon. The period between 1989 and 1990 brought two of the group's most praised and respected albums, both filled with unforgettable metal anthems. "In Command" will take you back to where it all started - to the birth of a thrash metal legend!!

New digipak edition of "In Command (live 1989-1990)" will be released by Metal Mind Productions on 19th May 2008 in Europe and 8th July 2008 in USA (via MVD). The album digitally remastered using 24-Bit process on golden disc is limited to numerated 2000 copies."

Mayhem - Guitarist Quits The Band

Mayhem guitarist / songwriter Blasphemer has decided to leave the band. Here's the musician's comment:

"It is with these written words that I hereby retract myself from my position as the guitar player of Mayhem.

The main reason behind this conclusion lies in the fact that I simply don't see any future for me in the band anymore, at least not a future I'd like to participate in over the coming years. I've been playing my part in the band now for more than 13 years already, having composed, produced and released several albums with great vision, dedication and craftsmanship, to arrive at this crossroad of opposites. Sooner or later, all things comes to an end, and in my case, this circle is complete.

For some of you this might not come as the biggest surprise, as I've clearly stated in several interviews that I was not sure what the next step would be. These "hints" were partly rooted in the fact that our latest album fulfilled all of the expectations, visions and aspects of negativity that I felt I wanted to express with this band, and also, of similar importance, that I felt tired of both the touring aspects, amidst its turbulence and personal differences, and also my role in the band.

It has been a dark, devoted and spellbinding journey, and as some beings and entities develop, others remain the same. I've developed my essence. No questions. However, the legacy of MAYHEM will / must always remain what it always has been, and I wish to thank all parts involved and to wish them all the best for the future. I also would like to thank my followers over the years, from "Wolf's Lair..." to "Ordo...", my vision has been clear. I'm also sure the band will continue with a respectful formation, and that an eventual album will be placed "up there", where it (should) belong.

I have now personally chosen to focus on other paths in terms of creativity and vision. My "child of heart" AVA INFERI has already a busy schedule for the future and our third album is being crafted as we speak. I will also re-surface with new will and blood in a future extreme project. You have not heard the last of me, on the contrary. It's all about to begin.

Note that the few already scheduled shows will go on as planned WITH me.

Rune Eriksen/Blasphemer".

Burzum - More Anthology Details Available

BW&BK has received the following Burzum press release:

"This one-man band retains a vital roll in the early development of Norway's famed black metal scene. His contributions to what was once merely a small circle of friends grew to immense popularity, the genre now having sold hundreds of thousands of records around the globe. Compared to his peers - Mayhem, Darkthrone, Gorgoroth, Immortal - Burzum possessed a very distinct sound. Using ancient mythology as his lyrical muse (the very name Burzum coming from J.R.R. Tolkien's Lord of the Rings), he became known for fearless experimentation; each record expanding on previous efforts.

"Anthology" is a special first-time collection of material that spans the musician's ten-plus year recording legacy; most unfortunately still unavailable for US fans (other than pricey imports). Featuring selections from each of his six albums (and including one from his popular EP "Aske"), "Anthology" is anticipated to be a highly sought-after recording for long-time fans and those curious newcomers who up-til-now only knew of the name and not had opportunity to bear witness to the musician's blackened fruit."

The Burzum Anthology is due out on May 13th via Candlelight Records.
