Tristania - Announce New Album Title

The following press release has been posted on Tristania's official website:

We are eager to announce that the new album is completely finished. We are all delighted with our latest creation, which has been named Illumination. The planned release is in September.

Some titles from the album are Sanguine Sky, Open Ground, Lotus, Down and Mercyside, to mention a few. All titles will be revealed at a later date.

True to tradition, we have made an album with a definite and unmistakably Tristanian sound, but which also brings a lot of new and fresh material. The album is another evolutionary step and lets us explore new areas while staying true to our roots.

On every track, the moods and elements are plentiful; ranging from doom to industrial, from soothing synthesizer passages to technical metal riffs, from dark ballads to classic goth rock - it's all there. We've used a string quartet on several tracks, which attributed yet another dimension to those songs.

The collaboration with producer Waldemar Sorychta worked really great; we all worked well together as a team. We are delighted with the production, which is exceedingly powerful. Waldemar also came to Norway, prior to going into studio, for two pre-production sessions. This was a very rewarding process which left us better prepared than ever going into the studio.

It is hard to describe the individual songs, but as ever, the material is very diverse. In a few weeks time, we will post samples from the album online, to give you an impression of the release. We will also post a video collage from recordings made in Woodhouse Studios, where we have spent quite some time this spring.

Illumination sports some of the strongest vocal performances from both Vibeke and Østen. The extreme vocals are less frequent, but the parts appearing on the album are truly great. We wanted to get someone special to do these parts, and were lucky to get one of our personal favourites in the field to make a guest appearance on the album; namely Vorph from Samael. His performance is truly of the highest standard.

The music is written by Anders & Einar, with a couple of tracks co-written with producer Waldemar during the pre-production in Norway. Østen is the main lyricist, although Einar has written words for a few songs. Kjartan Hermansen has also once again shared with us his skills as a lyricist.

Those of you who will see us on the Evolution Fest in Italy and Mera Luna in Germany this summer will get to listen to some of the new material - that's a promise. A lot of the new tracks will be killer live material.

Evoken - Announce New Bass Player

The following message by the members of Evoken has been posted on the band's official forum announcing their new bass player:

"Greetings all,

it's been a very long time since I have posted here, and now that the dust has settled, once again I now have the opportunity to chat and post as in the past.

First....we are extremely honored, and proud to announce the newest member of Evoken. Former Incantation,Disciples of Mockery, and current mastermind of Methadrone Craig Pillard as our new bassist.

We have been good friends with Craig for many years and it was only a matter of time before we could combine Craig's sound, talent, and experience with Evoken. We are very excited about the future of Evoken, with many things planned for the future. So Evoken are now a complete line-up once again as: John Paradiso-Guitars/Vocals, Nick Orlando-Guitars and Clean Guitars, Craig Pillard-Bassist, Denny Hahn-Keyboards, and Vince Verkay-Drums.

We will be e-mailing our Newsletter out on Tuesday with all this information. Also, the website is near completion with only a couple of minor tweeks here and there, and full band approval before going up. For now, the news regarding Craig will be in the Intro to the new Evoken website.

A lot! more news to come

with darkest regards,
John, Nick, Craig, Denny, and Vince

Shining - Working On New Album

An update by Kvarforth has been posted at Osmore Records website:

" We have just returned from the Razors Across Europe tour we made throughout Europe. The ten ceremonies, and three emergency hospital visits, were more or less successful and we will soon return better and even more determined of your demise soon. We did face some real severe problems in Budapest though due to our drummer and had to cancel the show because of this however, we will be back shortly in order to fuck you up in a more sincere and professional way! We would like to thank foremost URGEHAL for coming along and proving that there still are some genuine Black Metal bands out there not bowing for anyone or anything, and a massive thanks to my long time partner in crime Attila Cshair for helping us out in Budapest (without you, Ludwig would have probably been dead by now)...
Shining , the fifth, in the making

Some days ago we entered the caverns of Radio Halland in order to record our fifth studio album and if we manage to keep the time schedule we have set this pernicious piece of malignancy should be finished and ready for release within 4 weeks. "V / Halmstad", will contain six tracks of the darkest, yet most controversial, material we have written to date!

01. Yttligare Ett Steg Närmare Total Jävla Utfrysning (yet another step towards complete fucking desolation)
02. Längtar Bort Från Mitt Hjärta (longing away from my heart)
03. Låt Oss Ta Allt Från Varandra (let us take all from the one and the other)
04. Besvikelsens Dystra Monotoni (the dismal monotony of disappointments)
05. Åttiosextusenfyrahundra (eight thousand four hundred)
06. Neka Morgondagen (deny the day of tomorrow)

Apart from this we have also recorded a few additional tracks which will be used for an upcoming EP release, titled "Ett Steg I Helt Fel Riktning", which should be released sometime at the end of the year most likely featuring the video we're currently making as bonus...

For those still unaware, Casado left the band and have been replaced by Gråby (ex-ONDSKAPT) and John Doe, the king of SG and psychotic behavior, by Huss. We wish him all the success with his future projects and performances."

Rush - Working On New Material

Neil Peart posted an update on his official website, here there are some extracts from his message:

"The day I picked up Alex and Geddy at the local airport was sunny, but near freezing, and the three of us hugged each other through masses of coats, scarves, and gloves. All bundled-up like . . . Canadians in winter."

...

"Earlier this winter, when the three of us were making plans for our meeting in Quebec, I had been jokingly calling it our "corporate retreat." And indeed, we do have some "business" to discuss, but first ? we eat and drink."

...

"As recounted in my previous news report, back in January I had sent Alex and Geddy some lyrics. I knew they had been working with some of them, but I hadn't heard anything yet. That day in my kitchen, we had a momentary panic when Alex went searching through his bags and couldn't find the CD ? frantically calling his son Adrian in Toronto to try to have it sent up, or to be uploaded somehow to the Internet so we could download it there (the extremities of modern technology). Adrian reported that he couldn't find the CD in Alex's studio either. Alex had another look in the part of his bag where "he would never put it," and walked back into the kitchen holding the clear plastic case, shaking his head.

"That was close."

We gathered before the fire in the living room and started listening. As the songs played out, the response we all shared was a sense of clarity ? for Alex and Geddy, playing the songs for me that first time threw their strengths and weaknesses into sharp contrast, and they kept saying things like, "I know what we have to do here." Same for me, lyrically ? I was very gratified to hear parts that worked, saying "Yeah" when I heard Geddy sing a line just perfectly, while also knowing right away what I could improve upon.

There were five song sketches ? guitar, vocals, and drum machine ? and I liked them all. I also noticed those songs already seemed to have a sort of unity, a stylistic approach of chord structures, rhythms, and vocal delivery that I could only describe as "spiritual." I'll say no more about that aspect until we get farther into it, but it was wonderful that after thirty years of working together, we could still find different paths to explore together."

...

"So now I'm going to spend the month of May in Toronto, where we have rented a small studio. It will be great to have the opportunity to work together on those songs, and hopefully some new ones, too. For me, after spending more than a year working on my book, Roadshow, it will be nice to take off the "author" hat (BMW Motorcycles baseball cap) and put on my "lyricist" hat (the old cowboy special, given to me by a fan in Dallas, that I always think helps keep my versifying down-to-earth) and my "drummer" hat (African prayer cap).

Tarja Turunen - Inks Deal With Universal Music

Tarja Turunen, ex Nightwish singer, posted a message on her website talking about her plans for 2006:

"I am glad to announce my plans for the rest of this year.

Some new concerts have been added to the "Concerts" section of this web page. Please check them there. By the way, we are also working on the design of a new web page that will be ready soon.

Next info hopefully will make us all very happy: Nightwish "End of an Era" DVD and CD are ready to be released with our partners worldwide.

Finally, my brother's Teo Turunen debut album is ready and we are expecting to make it available in Finland during this summer. We did one duet together and I arranged and recorded with some friends the backing vocals. It was a lot of fun!

The Christmas project that started in 2004 with the single "Yhden Enkelin Unelma" (One Angel's Dream) and continued in 2005 with the tour in Europe, will come to an end next Christmas.

The recordings for the full Christmas album will take place from the end of June until the end of August 2006. We will mix it next September. Esa Nieminen will produce it as he did with the single that already reached Platinum sales in Finland!

I have already chosen all the songs for the album that is called "Henkäys Ikuisuudesta" (Breath From Heaven). Some songs I have performed in the last tour, but the album will also include new ones. I am very grateful for the song suggestions that many of you gave me. It helped me a lot.

The Christmas tour 2006 is already confirmed as well.

We will call it Henkäys Ikuisuudesta Kiertue (Breath from heaven Tour). You can find all the dates in the "concerts" section.

For the first time I will perform as a solo artist in so many cities in Finland. This makes me very excited! We will also visit Russia where I haven't been in many years!

Last tour was entirely acoustic, but this time, I will be performing with a live band accompanied by strings and flute. As you can imagine, the program will be totally renewed.

At last, but not least important, I am honoured to start a long cooperation with Universal Music Domestic Division Germany for my solo career.

We are at the moment working with my first solo album. It's a big, ambitious project that will require a lot of dedication and energy. I am really looking forward to see what the future brings for me as an artist.

I welcome you to the beginning of a new era?

With love, Tarja"

Twelfth Gate - New Singer

Twelfth Gate's vocalist Scott Huffman recently announced he has decided to quit the band. Replacing him in the group is Brent "Red" Erickson.

Commented bassist Rob Such: "This may come as a surprise to some, but it's actually something that Scott's been hinting at for well over a year now... Both for creative differences and reasons outside the band. At the time, even though we weren't sure whether or not our latest album ("Threshold of Revelation") would be his last, we made the decision to go ahead as planned... Mainly because we had a great album on our hands, and it deserved to be heard the way it was... With Scott singing on it. Then as suspected, once the album was finished at the end of last summer, Scott confirmed his decision to leave the band. However, he did make a commitment to the band and the new album until we found a new singer... To avoid any gap where the band did not have a singer at all. That definitely made everything much less stressful, but we still decided to start looking soon afterwards because we knew that it could potentially take a long time before we found someone we were happy with."

"Of course, with the release of the new album being pushed back to early 2006, the timing couldn't have been worse... But it happens, so we just dealt with it. Also, even before we started looking, we made the decision that our new singer needed to be someone with a different style, but whose voice would also fit the direction that the band was going in. Scott's got an absolutely amazing voice, and we knew that trying to find someone who sings in a similar style would just be futile... Not to mention that chapter of Twelfth Gate had officially come to a close."

"Fortunately, we got lucky fairly quick, and found someone who fit us both musically and on a personal level. Red came highly recommended through a close friend of the band, and everything began to progress quite well after only a few rehearsals together. The only 'final test' was how well we would all perform together live... So as a recommendation from Scott, he thought it would be a good idea to debut Red at the Chicago Powerfest, and then make our final decision. We agreed...and needless to say, after our performance at the Powerfest we decided Red was the man for the job... Though we really already knew it even prior to the fest."

"Personally, even though I'm excited about what the future holds for Twelfth Gate, I'm still a bit sad to see Scott go. Scott and I are very close friends, and have been ever since I joined the pre-Syris version of Spirit Web back in 1995. And now, after over 10 years of being in bands together, our musical paths are going in separate directions... Although, at least we're fortunate enough to have this happen while we're still all good friends, and everyone's truly happy about the transition.

The Meads Of Asphodel - New MCD On The Way

It's only been 6 months since Damascus Steel was released, but the band are currently finishing the recording of a new MCD titled "In the name of God, Welcome to Planet Genocide".

The current tracklisting is as follows:

1. Psalm 364
2. My Beautiful Genocide
3. A Baptism in the Warm Piss of Slaughtered Children
4. The Man Who Killed For God
5. Hell on Earth / Blood Runs Red (Discharge cover medley)
6. Aborted Stygian Foetus

Metatron says:

"The concept of genocide on this release is a conclusion to the 'Damasus Steel' album (2005) and will continue the blood letting and artery severing lyrics in preparation for the next album to be titled 'The Passion and Death of Ieosus'. This will be a concept album detailing the life and feath of the Jewish Rabbi, Yeshua - his humanity, zealot connections, arrest and crucifixion and his ultimate deification by the lies and growth of the Holy Roman Empire (which itself was a grotesque chil of the Roman Empire whose inhumanity is reflected in today's world.) No change there then!"

The MCD has an initial release date of June on Firestorm Records, but more details will follow soon.
