Arch Enemy - Christopher Amott Leaves The Band Again, Recruit Replacement

Official press release:

Arch Enemy have parted ways with guitarist Christopher Amott in an amicable split. Christopher Amott was a member of Arch Enemy between 1996-2005 and again between 2007-2011. Following is a joint statement by Arch Enemy: "We thank Christopher for the time he's worked with the band and of course wish him the very best in his future endeavours. Thankfully, there is no drama behind the scenes here. This is the best way forward for all involved. Christopher simply isn't into playing extreme metal anymore."

"We have already chosen and rehearsed with a new guitar player and we will complete the Khaos Legions 2012 touring cycle as planned. We are highly motivated and look forward to continue spreading our music around the world! Finally, our deepest thanks go to the Arch Enemy fans, whose amazing support and belief inspires us ever onward."

Arch Enemy are pleased to welcome 26 year old American guitarist Nick Cordle on board as they continue their touring activity following the release of their recent Khaos Legions (2011) album.

Founding guitarist Michael Amott comments: "Nick was my first choice as he ticks all the right boxes for Arch Enemy with his musicality and technicality as well as his personality and dedication. Looking forward to having him join us stage, the rehearsals have shown we have a devastating twin axe attack going on!"

It's fine as long as it's not his brother Michael leaving. Although they're a pretty good duo live, but I'm sure they've picked a good replacement.

I don't know what you meant by that. But if you're mocking Arch Enemy for considering themselves extreme metal then I have to agree. Nothing extreme about them.

Damn, AE will never be the same again for me. Imo the band's whole charm is the Christopher-Michael face-ripping riffs.

Maybe the next album will actually be worth a damn then. Don't get me wrong Chris is a great guitarist but their last couple albums have just been rather disappointing, maybe new blood will bring about better music again...

Actually i think this is good news. Christophers album Follow Your Heart is an incredible album (obviously not metal), and so hopefully there will be more albums like this on the horizon.

I thought it said Michael left, if that was so then Arch Enemy would be dead. Chris is a great guitarist, but i don't think he contributes to the writing process that much.

I don't think it is a matter of Chris not liking metal, but more so he has other musical commitments and areas he wants to explore - after all, Armageddon is still going more or less so that shows signs of interest in still playing metal, just perhaps nothing extreme influenced.

The thing is, Michael is his brother, so I suppose there will always be some ties to Arch Enemy - I wouldn't be surprised if he returned again, even just for a couple of live shows.

Another beef cropped up between members and finally this time Christopher leaving AE forever. He must be sick and tired of not getting "super best responses" from their Khaos...and tensions are always plays a major factor in their regime. Anyways, Good luck to Christopher and may the replacement be the best.

As much as I love Arch Enemy, I think that Chris Amott is the superior musician/songwriter in the band. Hopefully he's sitting on some awesome solo material.

I have progressively lost my interest in Arch Enemy, this is just another disappointment. Unless they release a really good album sometime soon, they have lost me forever

Oh yeah, but that wasn't "proper leaving" you know...he announced it..! but he was indirectly linked to the band. But this time, he actually left the "Arch Enemy" island and may be he is not coming back. Not sure.

Na I just think it's a shame when metal musicians no longer like it. I haven't listened to them a whole lot, I didn't like what I heard so I can't comment on their extremity
