Cannibal Corpse - Orthodox Activists Try To Ban Russian Shows

Death metallers Cannibal Corpse have a Russian tour scheduled to start at the beginning of October with eight shows in total in support of their new album A Skeletal Domain. But several Russian Orthodox Church activist organizations are trying to avoid that these shows take place according to RIA Novosti, among other sources. They have something against their lyrics, it seems, and are calling for a ban on the shows.

Dmitry Tsorionov (who sometimes goes by Dmitry Enteo), leader of the Orthodox public movement "God's Will", states (translated from Russian): "We send mass requests to the prosecutor, the description of what is happening at the concerts of the group, the texts of their songs, which are described in detail in the rape and murder of children."

Recently, Behemoth were detained by Russian immigration services and their Russian tour came to a sudden halt. They were later ordered to leave the country.

Dmitry Tsorionov is first going through official government means to try and accomplish his mission, and if that fails will resort to rallies, prayer meetings and mass protests in various forms.

The head of the Orthodox Union said: "We seek to ban concerts Cannibal Corpse in Russia. Their work is fully covered by the composition of the crime under the articles of the Criminal Code, for fueling religious hatred, promoting exclusivity, superiority or inferiority of citizens on the basis of their religion."

Oh my god it's the dark ages all over again...When will those religious extremists quit being such funny people, or at least keep their funniness to themselves.

I wouldn't be surprised if they do get banned, Russian politics seem to have been extremely suppressive of freedom of speech as of late

"for fueling religious hatred" so when a preacher says that all those who don't accept Jesus are going to hell or all those non-muslims are going to hell, isn't fueling religious hatred!

Well, yes, but to me it's not so much a question of whether or not countries suppress freedrom of speech (they all do), but which are more suppressive than others

I remember Russia being a huge supporter of European movements for independence or autonomy. There were even some investigations done and found out that much of the movements for separatism in Europe are funded by Russia. But then again, when it comes to their own movements for separatism, they reply in a violent manner. A while ago, a journalist from the region of Siberia supported the independence of Siberia from Russia and he quickly got arrested for violent remarks and hate incitement.

Russia today is a country full of double standards. While they are quick to show some irregularities regarding human rights or democratical processes that happen within the US or the EU, they do the same thing in their own god damn country and in a far more violent scale. This whole nationalism and religious extremism got mad ever since they got some land back into their country.

the russian government doesn't care about independence or autonomy of other nations. their only goal is to create friction and destabilize other nations. for example that is exactly what they do in my country. they are supporting the right-wing party to create an anti-EU sentiment

I think what we need to do is summon a REAL demon during a show so that we can give those religious fucks something to be afraid of.

But Cannibal Corpse's lyrics are about gory themes. They don't involve religion.

Blasphemy doesn't need to involve religion in particular. As CC's lyrics involve gore, mutilation, murder and multiple other brash subject matters, it's no surprise that devout religious zealots would find it offensive as they act as a form of blasphemy towards what is considered to be the most sacred thing of all in many, if not all, religions: Life.

It's subjectivism vs. objectivism. while european subjectivists say that if someone becomes a murderer by listening cannibal corpse it would be his problem(it means things don't have identity we give it to them), russian objectivists think that things have identity. The identity of cannibal corpse albums is against the ethics.it's not about the listener,it's about the song.all religions are objectivist.
As I study psychology,I think psychology agrees with objectivism. If you listen to cannibal corpse and you're not a murderer it doesn't mean that you're healthy.it goes to your Unconscious mind and it will hurt you and others in another way.

Here in chile, the church banned iron maiden in 1993 for considering them satanic because of the lyrics in number of the beast album lol. This shit happen, especially in conservative countries.

But i was wondering, why some bands have problems to play in russia, and them when they go to ukraine, with all the troubles there, nothing happen.

Would a death metal band with CC's sound and lyrics about rainbow and puppies be banned or it's because of their lyrical theme?
