Týr - Working On A New Album

The Faroese folk metal outfit Týr just got the all clear to start recording their eighth full-length installment. You'll do well to remember that their last album, Valkyrja, was released only a couple of years ago, in 2013. Týr's guitarist and vocalist Heri Joensen has shared the news on his personal Facebook page.

He says: "Jacob Hansen has cleared and authorised us to start recording the guitars for the next Týr album! We have sent him a few test recordings over the last few weeks and he has checked the quality. We have now reached a working method that allows us to record raw guitar signal in high enough quality.

"This time we are recording the guitars and basses at home, in our own makeshift studios. Hopefully we will be able to do the same with the vocals, but that remains to be seen. It takes some practise and some equipment, not all of it very cheap either. Some of the songs are still at the writing stage, and some of the songs are finished.

"We have split the songwriting more even this time. Terji has written six songs, I have written six songs and Gunnar has written two. We expect there to be twelve songs on the standard issue, and fourteen on a special edition. But that will be up to the label, Metal Blade Records. No lyrics are written as of yet, but we have a general theme, and possibly even a name, for the album. And I have pages upon pages of notes, quotes and anecdotes that I hope to turn into the lyrics for the new Týr album. Stay tuned for updates!"

Heri is pretty open to conversation on Facebook and has pretty much made it clear that Týr no longer play the same style as the earlier albums (which is a shame). That's what Heljareyga is for I suppose. The last album was quite disappointing, but even average Týr is better than what a lot of bands are releasing now. Looking forward to the next one

I don't know if anything will ever match Eric the Red and Ragnarok as those are utterly fantastic Progressive/Folk albums. I'd love a return to that earlier sound too, but I have enjoyed their last few albums so I'm looking forward to the next one. Hope to catch them live some day.

Love those albums too. I am a fan of Northern Star and Thrym, but Valkyrja was just missing something for me . Even the less progressive albums still have their moments. Valkyrja just made me realise how much more the band is capable of producing. I skip like 4 of the tracks :O

Screw the haters! The last two albums were great. Their older stuff bores the hell outta me.

so i must suppose that this band will became the In Flames of folk metal?
Shame 'cause their earlier sounds was what made difference with others bands... Know their distinctive flavour is gone feels me really sad...

I hate this shit. Not finding an album "great" doesn't mean you are a hater. You don't like the old stuff? Screw you, you hater.

Well it started with BTLOTNS and continued with Thrym. It's not that their next album will be completely different. The process of moving away from the progressive earlier albums, started like 6 years ago or something.

I like their newer more Power Metal stuff more then the classic albums but thats just my preference. My biggest issue with Tyr is they just spit albums out way too damn quick. Last album felt a bit lackluster and had a lot of filler. Feel like they need to relax a bit and take some more time to perfect the album. Really like Thrym and Northern Star though.

Yep, but somehow i feel that Norther Star, even if it's simplier and more accesible, keeps that Fær Øer folk flavour (and quality). It was a well thought out album, with a gradual evolution, from catchy up to a fancier arrival, slow and introspective.
Thrym is an average album and imho more simplified in some songs than Norther Star. And it leaves me without remarks: neither good, neither bad... Valkyria it's its copy/paste and turns more to a power like sounds that made you feel to listen a common power like band...

I'm not against changes, but i would like to expect the same quality and passion of the past (more quality)... I feel bad when those things lack from a such great band...
