Epica - Unveil New Album Tracklist And Concept

Dutch metallers Epica announced their new album just recently, and also an upcoming European tour with Powerwolf. The updates continue now about the new album with the tracklist of The Holographic Principle, due out September 30th through Nuclear Blast, which they consider their best album to date. The record will have 12 tracks and the band has also explained the concept.

Mark Jansen commented on the concept of the album: "The Holographic Principle deals with the near future, where virtual reality allows people to create their own worlds which can't be distinguished from 'reality as we know it'. This raises the question whether our current reality could be a virtual reality in itself - a hologram. The lyrics challenge you to reconsider everything you took for granted and to be open-minded towards recent revolutions in science. Nothing appears to be what it seems in our holographic universe."

Tracks:

01. Eidola
02. Edge Of The Blade
03. A Phantasmic Parade
04. Universal Death Squad
05. Divide And Conquer
06. Beyond The Matrix
07. Once Upon A Nightmare
08. The Cosmic Algorithm
09. Ascension - Dream State Armageddon
10. Dancing In A Hurricane
11. Tear Down Your Walls
12. The Holographic Principle - A Profound Understanding Of Reality

Colour me interested. However, I have a feeling the tracks will flow in the same predictable structure as they have since The Divine Conspiracy, judging from the tracklist, anyways. For an innovative band, Epica have become a tad predictable; more variety is needed.
Excited, nonetheless. I'm curious to hear how Simone's vocals are on this record.

^^ I understand what you mean, but they have nevertheless morphed into one of the strongest Symph Metal acts around and like you, I always welcome a new album of theirs.

First gig was Manowar (loincloths 'n' all), Bristol Colston Hall in March 1983, on the 'Hail to England' tour. Tickets were £3.75, 300 in the audience, Mercyful Fate never showed, but my hearing still got seriously trashed..

Oh, without a doubt they're one of the strongest in the genre. I've loved all their releases except, maybe, Design Your Universe, with which I was slightly underwhelmed by. I always greatly anticipate a new Epica release.

I think "The Quantum Enigma" was an improvment, comparing to "Requiem for the Indifferent". I hope this one remains on the same path, as the previous álbum.

Some of the songs titles can be from a Gloryhammer album like "Universal Death Squad" haha! But still, pretty hyped for this one!

Sci-Fi Metal?

From the description, and track titles, I'm skeptical as to how the songs will manage to connect with listeners on an emotional level.

The Quantum Enigma was a fucking monster when it came to catchy symphonic power metal. I am so psyched for this one!

It will probably make people feel smarter than they actually are.
