Oh man I've always had a soft spot for Slipknot, their debut was the soundtrack to my late teens... Jordison has been a staple in my musical landscape for over twenty years, sad to see him go at such a young age.

A big shame! I was hoping he would be back in Slipknot at some point, he brought extreme metal drumming to all of us 90s / early 2000s kids that were getting into metal at that time and even now I still am sometimes impressed by his songwriting and playing. RIP legend

Damn, 46 is too young. He had transverse myelitis which is a very rare disease. For his last couple of Slipknot shows he had to be carried on and off the stage and he was still playing despite losing feelings over his legs and being in constant pain. That's like Beethoven composing while deaf. He eventually recovered (partially thanks to him going to the gym a lot to get his leg muscles back) and played in some other bands. And yes, he was able to kick-drum again; check out his performances in Sinsaenum.

He was a very passionate founding member and you could always tell that he was doing it all for the love of music, not so much for money. People called him a walking metal encyclopedia, because of his dedication to the genre. He started drumming at 8, so by the time he co-founded Slipknot at 20, he already had 12 years of practice and some experience with previous bands.

I edited this post, because originally it was a bitter rant about the way he got unceremoniously kicked out of the band. A man with his talent and dedication deserved better than that.

Joey Jordison was one of the most talented drummers. He was a beast behind the kit.

We lost a gem today.

RIP, legend.

Damn, never cared for Slipknot's music but this guy was an extremely good drummer. It's tragic how this band already lost two of its founding members at such young ages.

So sad. When I was a teenager I really enjoyed Slipknot and I was blown away with how good he was.

I've never played drums but I've wanted to play for many years (I still want) and he was a very big influence for that, if not the biggest one.

We've lost too many talented musicians.

Rest in peace, man.

What a loss. Slipknot was the group that introduced me extreme metal. The memories that I had growing up listening to them in my early years are fond memories. May you Rest In Peace, Brother!

RIP, Slipknot were my first "heavy" band beyond the standard NWOBHM bands I listened to and definitely got me into the more extreme side of things, I think that's the case for many of us young uns who got into metal as teenagers in the 90-00's.

Reading comments seems many as teenagers did like it. As teenager I never stuck whit Nu metal and those MTv2 bands ... I liked true metal then , I know those bands because of videos and radio. Many friends liked them so I listened, but never stucked whit

Oh come on, one of the most talented drummers of our times just died and all you have to say is that you were too cool to listen to Slipknot?

Joey Jordison was also doing other projects like Sinsaenum, Scar The Martyr and the Murderdolls. Plus he occasionally filled in as a drummer for live shows, like for Metallica and Satyricon.

It's okay if you don't like Slipknot, but this article is dedicated to an ex-member, not the actual band. It only mentioned Slipknot, because that was the band most people knew him for.

Not a name I was expecting to read in an obituary any time soon...

I was introduced by my high school girlfriend to Slipknot and immediately fell in love with the drumming (and Corey Taylor's vocals). It was never a deep want of mine or anything to become a musician but his unique style of play and versatility made me realize there's a lot more depth to explore and analyze when it comes to music and in part that pushed me into wanting to write about music in some capacity.

He provided the beat for an entire generation of angry teens and young adults to walk to. A worthwhile legacy to leave behind.

It really says something when even people who dismiss Slipknot are complimentary of Joey's drumming. Slipknot was the first metal band I was obsessed with. It's because of them that I first thought: "ok, I think I'm a metalhead now", because I would listen to them all day, every day. And they're the reason I decided to go after more extreme bands. So, needless to say, they had a huge impact in my life.

RIP Joey.

Holy shit how could I be so ignorant as to miss this for so many days, I'm shocked and saddened by this. One of the coolest things I remember seeing as teen becoming a Metalhead was Joey's drum solo on his revolving pentagram stage from the Disasterpieces DVD. Hate to think what his struggle must've been like, my partner lives with something similar so much respect for not letting it beat him.
Rest In Peace man.
