If you want to attract a pop-listener to metal with one track, which track you’ll recommend to him?

Another good strategy is to find music that relates to the person's interests. For example, I have several friends that are big military history buffs and reenact WWII battles, so I had them listen to some Sabaton, and they loved it.

To be completely honest I wouldn't recommend anything unless they were genuinely interested, also the song would depend on the target persons initial taste. But I must say the best way to offer a transition from pop to metal I still think I the Black Album by Metallica.

Some cheesy but no so fast Power Metal, maybe Rhapsody of Fire. But have u ever considered tieing ur friends to a chair and apply em a treatment a la Clockwork Orange?

Usually gothic metal is very appealing to non-metal fans.

I would show him/her the first five tracks of After Forever's self-titled album, especially "Energize Me" with its pop-technoesque production. New Within Temptation, as some people have stated before, tends more towards Gothic Rock than Gothic Metal, and this is what they even say themselves in their Myspace page, so pop fans might find their last releases attractive.

I actually let 2 pop fans listen to Dismember and both of them said it changed their lives. Though I don't think they even knew metal existed until then. They are currenty metal heads thanks to me.

That's what I was saying, people who don't listen to metal like some gothic metal. So, what's wrong with what I said? lol

If you want to introduce Metal to someone, you probably won't give him/her a Benighted album or something like that. In such situations (which happened for me dozen of times) I would give the person something like Nightwish, Cradle of Filth and some other sold out Metal stuff, because a sold out Metal album is pop somehow..

They're a good popish metal band, but still heavier than Avenged Sevenfold.

I've seen this many times before. It starts with Killswitch then goes to bands like In Flames, All That Remains, As I Lay Dying, and then from there it just carries on to more heavy stuff.

I see people mention the new Within Temptation and Lunatica. I fully agree with them, but I'd also like to add UnSun. Rather poppy sounding, but good music imo and hot front woman.

Iron Maiden. They've gotten a ton of people into metal & in turn they pretty much work as a good solid show of the metal genre that also is like a "Gateway" band into a lot of other groups.

Oh, yeah. This was def the case for me when I was in middle school. I used to (and occasionally do...) listen to 80's pop before Maiden. =O! No lie. I also used to listen to GOD-AWFUL pop/alt rock bands like Matchbox 20 and Everclear. Oh god... I was so queer! >:[ I would also go as far as to say that Maiden helped me get into metal, which eventually helped me get into Classic 70's rock, which then got me into Frank Zappa's work, which THEN got me into all kinds of weird stuff!

So yeah... Maiden for the fucking win for me! (J'.')J

I think if IM was the 1st metal band I hear, I wouldn't be a metalhead now..

Amen! Zappa does some pretty sick *explative*. Before maiden it was Def Leppard & Queen. The elements I liked in them were done about 10x's better by Iron Maiden. I got into Motorhead at the same time (I saw my 1st episode of Headbangers ball night when I was 11 & the entire deal was back to back videos. It worked I was hooked. *explative* awsome night to be stuck home in hindsight.)
