Melodic black metal is a growing genre. I'm not an expert on black metal by any means, but I know I prefer these bands to the raw sound of Norweigan Black Metal etc. Melodic black metal often has gothic influences as well, and that's pretty much where my knowledge ends. If you know any other good bands that play like the ones in the poll please post as I'm interested in listening to them!
My favorite out of these would be Dark Fortress, a German (I think) band, my favorite album by them is Stab Wounds. I reccomend them to everyone!
Oh and please keep on topic and try not to turn this into a genre battle.

Dimmu Borgir...
Their first three albums are masterpieces.. Now, I don't like them so much.
But Stomblåst [the original one] is just brilliant. the intro of the first song... the piano is incredible beautiful.

I really like Dimmu Borgir's first era.

I vote for Dimmu Borgir, no doubt...I like them since the beginnig. And for me they are one of the best bands...
On the other side, I would say that Rotting Christ is realy great band. I find this band on this site and I would say that I like their music, style...cool band.
Graveworm is also one very good band...I found some albums, like Scourge Of Malice and Engraved In Black, great as well...
Generally speaking I like this genre pretty much ...

And by the norweigan sound, most Norweigan black metal has raw production while melodic black metal uasally has cleaner production, not all the time for either, but generally. And I forgot about Emperor, which is stupid as they are the most well known and will probably win the poll

Yes, the production is very good and clean. But do you know what's so ironic? Night's Blood was supposed to be on that EP too, but the recording of it went wrong and the sound was far from good and clean.

LOOOOOL That sucks... Night's Blood is one of the best songs by them u.u
And I hate when the production is not so good... I mean I don't want to hear pure and clean production.. but I want something that I can hear.
And some songs of Dissection's old demos really sucks because the production.

Voted for Dark Fortress but

WHERE THE FUCK IS DISSECTION!!!!
Their sound is too "blackened" to just ignore them, and IMO Storm of the Light's bane is a masterpiece of overall metal, I don't mind if someone posted it before but my vote goes really form them. In that area Dimmu Borgir is CRAP they are less dissappointing as Symphonic Extreme, and Cradle of Filth suits better for Extreme Gothic, anyway tastes are tastes and dissection owns everyone!!!

Rotting Christ they sound very original very melodic but dark also
