jizzlord: If you're talking about the radio and playing the "black metal" tag station, then it's not very surprising. The tags are not 'purified' (which is a very very good thing IMO) so everything people have tagged as black metal can come up. Or do you mean you have those tracks? Well, in any case, if you weren't there to notice Britney Spears' track(s) playing, you got what you deserved. The service is supposed to show what you listen to, not what your computer plays while you're away.

i doubt i have britney spears in my vast fortess of grimness (my hard disk ), i often listen to he radio to hear new stuff. as actual radio stations in ireland are bad when it comes to metal, though some regional stations have shows, including my universities station, a good show at that. no nu metal

yeah, you can untill a certain degree. but scrobling 1 million tracks in 6 months is impossible. this is a bug, but it's amusing

The info of tracks shorter than 30 seconds will not be submitted to last.fm. But yes, the principle is the same and I've seen people do this. (Seen and compared the time signatures of submitted tracks of some users.)

I don't really get it why people do this. This is not a race and nobody cares if you have listened to a certain band more than anyone else. That's just utter stupidity.

I agree Krypton.
I think some people simply play music all the time (with turned off volume) to gain bigger score.
