Before this album was released, and like for every album of Korn since Follow The Leader, it was rumoured that they had gone back to the roots, that is to say they had once more the raw sound and the violence of their first album. And once more, if you expect things to be like this, you are going to be really disappointed by this 'Take a look in the mirror'. Though, the previous statement is more true in the case of this album than for any other one. Seemingly, they heard the fanbase reactions after 'Untouchables', who had been taken aback by the mellowish experimentations of Johnathan Davis's singing, as well as by the calmness of certain tracks. Those who had turned their backs on Korn because of this change (who was probably commercial) should try to get an ear on this album. Ok this is still Korn, so those who don't like their particular genre will hate 'Take a look in the mirror', but for the others?

Right Now and Did My Time are alright songs. They'll never get back to the sound of their first album imo.

I wish they didn't try to be too brutal all the time. The songs sound less thought-out and more written to easily hook the listener. And it's working on my pop-whore self more than I want to admit. Wondering if I'm going to bump this a point as well, or if the problem in the songwriting is going to keep it as it is. We'll see.

I actually took this album back to the shop way back when. Was a pretty huge letdown after Untouchables.

You know I was wondering about that. I bought it right when it went out, and was hugely disappointed. I'm almost sure I traded it back then (with another CD to get the Slipknot Disasterpieces DVD). I have a clear memory of that, and yet my collection shows it's still here. But my physical collection is in a box 400kms away. So I can't check. But I guess I am past that first very bad impression now.

This is definitely one of Korn's heaviest albums, mostly because of the heavy bass sound, and the vocals, that are much harsher on this one. But it's a long way off from being their best imo, there is hardly anything interesting, or memorable about this one, and the songwriting is lacking something.
