Back in 1995, I recorded this song on the radio, then stupidly deleted it. I would swear it was from the late 80s, but it could also have been a 90s song by a band who kept that sound.
The only information I've got:
- drums very similar in sound to those of "I Want it All" by Queen
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CnALnM620Zo
- a voice similar to that of Joey Cerisano in "The Siege and Investiture of Baron von Frankenstein's Castle at Weisseria" by Blue Öyster Cult
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AoPqrzkYMJ4
- rather slow and epic
- screaming vocals
The lyrics I only very vaguely remember, something about a "black sword" or some "dark crystal".
Any suggestion would be hugely appreciated. It could also make us discover new gems.
Great suggestions, totally in keeping with my description! I've listened to all the pre-1996 songs by Manowar and Virgin Steele, and I'm afraid that's not it yet.
There was no double bass drumming as far as I can remember. Singing during the chorus was really exulting and joyful. A more powerful singer than in the two mentioned bands (if I may say so).
The band in question might be a bit more obscure than Manowar. I'm pretty sure the song was from the 1985-1989 period.
When I saw the title I thought that might be it (I imagined a screaming "the never ending FIIIIIIIIIIIRE!!!!!!!!"), but once again it's not. Keep them coming please, I'm discovering lots thanks to this. And believe me, that song I heard then must be one of the greatest heavy metal songs ever. I really seem to remember it mentioned a sword, so it should be one of those fantasy/Michael Moorcock influenced bands.
Power and dark voice from the 80s and a song ending with ... Fire. That's WASP and "Sleeping (in the fire)". They made an acoustic version that sounds even better.
No, it's not W.A.S.P. either, and I don't think there's "FIRE" in the chorus, I just thought it could have been the case when I saw the title "The Never Ending Fire".
Let me remind you the main characteristics:
- slow and epic
- screaming vocals
- presumably lyrics about a black sword, dark crystal, or something sword & sorcery
- presumably from the 85-89 period
