"Second Life" is the first album of a really promising French combo that plays a mix of melodic Thrash and Death Metal. Their first demo was Demo of the month in the French Rock Hard mag' and they got plenty of great reviews. But now, this is evidently a bit more serious and let's hopes that this album will confirm all the good hopes that we got with this demo. The answer is? in this review?

If you don't know the band you must know that you're in front of something super technical actually and when you read that it is Thrash Metal, don't expect any form of "Bay Area" Thrash. "Second Life" is clearly oriented toward technical Death with some touches, it's true, of Thrash. It reminds me some band like Theory Of Practice actually there are great solis everywhere but on the other hand it's hard to find the riffs and the fury that we can find when we listen to US' Thrash.

Though, except for some rhythms that can be linked to Thrash Metal I think that the band wanted to play Death Metal above all. It's hard to describe the music of Kryzalid and you know why, it's a good thing because it means that it is original. Yes, they knew how to mix differents musical styles and the musical level of these musicians evidently pays. With Kryzalid, you have Progressive stuff, aggressive riffs, but also melodies, at the end, it's a great mix for all the ones who want to listen to a really technical music.
On the other hand this album can be a bit boring for someone who doesn't like technical music then remember that even if the band has some Thrash influences, this is above all an album where you'll find a lot of guitars demonstrations. I personally like it, but I'm sure that some people can dislike it too. This is just a matter of taste and this is evidently something that you must know.

I think that "Second Life" confirms all the potentiality of this young French band and this album is a real success in my opinion. However, I hope that the band will be able to find some catchy choruses in the future because even if all the songs are really good, the album lacks of super hits. But don't worry anyway we're in front of an excellent album and Kryzalid has the potential to become one of the leaders of the French Metal scene.
