Best Of Doom Metal

More doom on the way: as of 14th June I'm slowly adding a few albums, hopefully to reach the 50 mark.

Such as?

I have totally no complaints with this list, except for the fact that Doomsword is at number two.

well i know for each has his own doom level, but hey what about :
- DoomVS :Aeternum Vale
- Empyrium : A Wintersunet, Songs Of Moors & Misty Fields
- My dying bride: the Dreadful Hours
- Draconian : Where Lovers Mourn
- Uaral : laments , sounds of pain
- Forgotten tomb
- inborn suffering : wordless hope
- Orom : 8
- paradise lost

that what came to my mind for the moment, and i am sure we can get more

Roughly in order yes. I haven't heard all doom albums in existence, so it's likely there are some which could make it onto this list which i'm not aware of. I'll give those I haven't heard from your suggestions a listen.

Thanks, and that Doomsword album I've always had a strong liking for (one of the first I remember hearing from the doom genre alongside other epic doom like Candlemass and Solstice)

Nice chart/list ! But seriously - I don't see here absolute classics like My Dying Bride - Turn Loose The Swans / 1992 / and Paradise Lost - Draconian Times / 1995 /

Thanks! That particular MDB album I do enjoy, just not quite as much as the albums on this list (though that may change from time to time). And Draconian Times.. well there is some doom to it but not enough to warrant putting it here, as good as it is.

Great list. I agree with a lot of those albums. I however do think Evershade is far better than Merging Into Landscapes. Also don't agree with Nightfall being better than Epicus Doomicus Metallicus.

Lastly, someone suggested Forgotten Tomb... don't add it, as it doesn't really belong in this list (in my opinion). Tried listening to their debut, but the vocals are so horribly bad I couldn't even get past the first song.

Hey thanks! For some strange reason I haven't given Evershade a go yet, only had a crack at Yearning's discog not too long ago and that Merging Into Landscapes is the first one I went with. If it's anything like that I'll be in for some fine quality doom.

As for Nightfall that is one of my favourite albums in general, and as much as Epicus is damn solid I've always had an attachment to Nightfall, just like that Doomsword album there.

I've yet to have a listen to Forgotten Tomb, I'll give them one chance though!

Evershade was the first Yearning album I heard and I was blown away by it. Merging Into Landscapes wasn't that impressive to me, but still very good.

And yeah, tastes differ I guess. Nightfall is great (especially the intro + first song, which is later used by Nile for the song Unas Slayer Of The Gods if you didn't know yet; pretty funny to hear the resemblance), though Candlemass' debut is better for me. Haven't listened to Doomsword (yet)... about Forgotten Tomb: the music itself impressed me, but I couldn't stand the vocals (which rarely happens by the way).

It's freaky that you should mention that as not long ago I tried some Nile and I remember one track which reminded me of something but for the life of me I couldn't remember what it was from. But it was on the previous album "In Their Darkened Shrines", I haven't heard Annihilation Of The Wicked yet but I'll look out for the bit of Candlemass, thanks for the heads up!

If you like epic doom there's no finer band than Doomsword I think. And that sounds like a waste of great music spoiled by vocals, that doesn't always happen to me but when it does there's nothing more frustrating.

I was just about to PM you about the mistake I just made! The song by Nile is called Unas Slayer Of The Gods. I don't know why I typed Annihilation Of The Wicked just now... maybe because both songs are probably the best on their respective albums. I corrected it now at least.

I'm also listening a bit to Isole lately, which is pretty good. I'll check out Doomsword too though. About Forgotten Tomb: don't take my word for it, as I only listened to 1 song. A lot of people think it's great music (if you somehow could remove the awful vocals I'd agree).

Then that must be what I recognised about it, I couldn't draw the link between the two but now I hear it loud and clear. Thanks for clearing that up for me.

Yeah Isole are awesome, sad to say though I haven't given their new one much love. "Throne of Void" and "Bliss of Solitude" would be my favs, the former having some of the best vocal work I've yet heard from a doom band.

I've only heard Bliss Of Solitude a few times (bought it recently) and I do think it's a very good album, but I need to listen to it more. Throne Of Void, eh? I'll check that one out too.

Ugh, you've made yourself a good amount of lists that I want to check out (especially the Gothic one). Don't have the time for that now, but I'll do that soon. I have a few lists too if you're interested:

If you're a Gothic metal fan I'd strongly suggest Madder Mortem, one of my favourite bands. Some of the most unique female vocals out there and the musicianship is top notch.
Based on your top 50 list you should find something likeable from my Gothic list.

I'll check it out, but at the moment I still have a ton of great (mostly debut) albums I want to listen to. Thanks for the suggestion and thumbs up.

Out of the ones I've heard there Saturnus' Martyre would be a serious contender for a spot, great album.
