2012 WIP

Thumbs up: +2
WIP !!!!

Quite opposite to 2011, which featured both freakingly awesome releases (Terra Tenebrosa, Lazuli, Thy Catafalque...) and crap that redefined crap (Lulu or Illud Divinum Isanus), 2012 was quite consistent. Sadly, consistently average. OK, consistently quite correct, but groundbreaking releases were few and far between...
Sadly, most albums released this year suffered badly to my few delving in past musical works - Vulture Industries's [album]The Malefactor's Bloody Register[/album], Dälek, Abney Park, Jorn Zorn (including of course some Painkiller and Naked City goodness)...

As always with my yearly lists, there are two parts, sorted each by alpha order. The five four albums are what I consider to be this year's greatest's stuff. The other are "just" good albums I enjoyed a lot

Some trimming still to be done

1. A Forest Of Stars - A Shadowplay For Yesterdays
Album of the year; varied, weird, strangely beautiful yet ultimately creepy.
2. Anaal Nathrakh - Vanitas
A relentless assault of pure violence. Well, that's what I call fun!
3. Faal - The Clouds Are Burning
Being utterly miserable rarely sounds so good and warm!
4. Klone - The Dreamer's Hideaway
Klone's masterpiece, for sure. Entrancing...
5. Between The Buried And Me - The Parallax II: Future Sequence
Proggily good metalcore!
6. Diablo Swing Orchestra - Pandora's Piñata
For once, they managed to be surprising during the whole album...
7. Enslaved - RIITIIR
Do they ever disappoint?
8. Gorod - A Perfect Absolution
Groovy, technical, catchy and brutal - once again. Plus they're an absolute blast live!
9. Igorrr - Hallelujah
Weirdo weIRdo wEirdO (oh, yeah, breakcore/metal/chicken/everything)..?!
10. Kong - Merchants Of Air
Classy, electro-proggy instrumental stuff.
11. Metallic Taste Of Blood - Metallic Taste Of Blood
Weird, chilling, trippy. Interesting stuff...
12. Mindplotter - Event Horizon
Trippy, electro-djenty instrumental stuff.
13. Moonspell - Alpha Noir / Omega White
Omega White is the Moonspell we love - but both feature great songs.
14. Stolen Babies - Naught
Less wacky than their first album, but still mightily enjoyable.
15. The Blood Of Heroes - The Waking Nightmare
Hip-hop meets Godflesh, with a brilliant result.
16. Vortech - Devoid Of Life
Great, catchy electro/industrial death metal. Love it!
17. Bend The Sky - Origins
Atmospheric and proggy instrumental djent. Beautiful.
18. Bloodshot Dawn - Bloodshot Dawn
Infectiously catchy thrash/death of great quality!
19. Blutmond - The Revolution Is Dead!
20. Cancer Bats - Dead Set On Living
21. Converge - All We Love We Leave Behind
22. Coram Lethe - Heterodox
Honestly surprised with how much I enjoyed this proggy "death" stuff.
23. Dordeduh - Dar De Duh
They couldn't top Om, of course (who could?), but that's a nice attempt nonetheless.
24. Elysian - Wires Of Creation
25. Forgotten Silence - La Grande Bouffe
26. Jambinai - Différance
Korean instruments mix oh-so-well with post-stuff atmospheres. One of the most original albums released this year!
27. Meshuggah - Koloss
solid, yet not exceptional
28. Minority Sound - The Explorer
Catchy electro-metal done right.
29. Morbid Angel - Illud Divinum Insanus (The Remixes)
No I'm not kidding, some remixes are better than the original versions. OK, that wasn't too hard
30. Unsane - Wreck
Noise-rock/hardcore just came back with another great album.
