In the common mindset, when a fire burns something to ashes, said thing is completely destroyed, never to return. And yet, in European mythology, we are told that the mythological phoenix, upon nearing old age, bursts into flames... only to be reborn from its ashes, to begin life anew with a fresh energy and spiritual vitality. From the creative ashes of Romanian black metal legends Negură Bunget, rose the phoenix of Dordeduh, the new project of former members Sol Faur and Huppogramus; it both pays tribute to the band of their origin and yet also transcends it. Dordeduh are by no means whatsoever easy to digest, and nor is their debut album. And yet, as was the case with Negură Bunget, this sense of mystery is part of what adds to the band's overall formula of fantastic music. For Dar De Duh is quite simply the type of album that's like an elaborately-crafted painting. You have to look it over several times to fully absorb its entire beauty, but once you take it in for all it's worth, you'll be absolutely amazed.

First full length from the former primary creative influences of Negura Bunget. I had high hopes and Sol Faur and Hupogrammos don't disappoint. If you enjoyed the cosmically wonderful "OM", odds are you'll find this nearly as entrancing.

It'll be one hell of a showdown between this and RIITIIR. Two monoliths of kickass black metal.

I am 100% sure they won't be nominated in the same category. MOst likely to happen is Dordeduh in folk (since it's more folk than black) and Enslaved ion prog (it's more prog than black)

That definitely makes sense, but what albums will be nominated in the black metal category if not these two then?

Most likely some more straight forward black. Can't think of any atm though

Maybe A Forest Of Stars, Nachtmystium or The Great Old Ones... Even though I'm sure I've missed a lot of great BM albums this year, I think that BM in 2012, with the exclusion of Dordeduh and Enslaved as they're not fully black metal, pales in comparison to 2011. God that year was fascinating.

I'd be voting Krallice's latest so far, It's been a long time since I don't go nuts over a BM album like that one. Also Reverence put out a great album.

Very different album, but I really enjoy it. I like how the Romanian language is similar to the Portuguese. This album has moments of rare beauty too.

So, I finally got my hands on this album and after giving it a few spins I am very glad to say that it was well worth the wait.

The thing that stands out the most to me about Dar De Duh is the variety and general songwriting which is really well executed overall. Because of this, the fairly hefty total playtime was never an issue and instead I found that the time just flew by while listening to the album. The vocals, together with all the different folk aspects, are another great thing I liked about it and the romanian lyrics is a nice touch that felt fresh and strangely enthralling at times. I do however wish that there would have been slightly more straight up black metal sections scattered throughout the duration of the album but you can't have everything I guess.

Nitpicking aside though, Dar De Duh is a captivating and well made album in every respect.

I still have faith in this band because they made me fly with all their albums from Negura Bunget.
This album Dar de Duh offers a lot but when it comes to the lyrics and less to the intrumental part which is pretty not interesting - and also a huge negative surprise for me.
The people around here need to know that they continue to do their esoteric music performed at Negura. The principle followed in this album is the number 7 principle which, in the esoteric meaning is the seven visible planets in our solar system and the affection produced to men by them. Also it can be understood as the seven chakras.
As I have heard in an interview the thirst track is about the planet Saturn / saturday and the third one is about Mars / march

I love this kind of style. I hear a lot of variety in this music, which is obviously a good thing.

Excellent album. Glad I'm seeing them in october together with The Vision Bleak and Saturnus.

Last time I listened to this album was back when it was released. Damn, what a re-discovery. The songwriting is jaw-dropping. It's an incredibly long album but it just passes you by because it's so well written and it changes voices and moods all the time.

This is how I like my folk-inspired metal.

You really should. The first track alone has some mighty moments. Another track that got easily stuck to my memory was the fifth track, Pândarul, with its more calm vibe.

Indeed. The first track is superb. Most of the time I just listen to it a couple of times and then change the music =p
