A Thrash List But Not Exactly From A Thrasher

Thrash may not be my favorite metal subgenre but it's one of them. There have always been thrash albums I always get back to with great pleasure and I am usually happy when thrash veterans get back with great music.
I say not a thrasher because I am stuck in the past, as it's easily to be seen in the list, new bands have not impressed me much, especially when they predictably wear their influences on their sleeves.

1. Kreator - Terrible Certainty
2. Metallica - Master Of Puppets
3. Slayer - South Of Heaven
4. Annihilator - Never, Neverland
5. Death Angel - Act III

Best Album Of Each Year

Fifty years of metal, 50 best albums of the year. Note that in order to diversify the list I limited it to one album per band, otherwise there would have been too much Judas Priest and Iron Maiden.

1. Black Sabbath - Paranoid
2. Led Zeppelin - Led Zeppelin IV
3. Deep Purple - Machine Head
4. Budgie - Never Turn Your Back on a Friend
5. Queen - Queen II

3. Dio - Holy Diver
4. Metallica - Ride The Lightning

Club: Technical/progressive Music That Ain't Over The Top Wankery

this list is related to this forum thread, please check
this list is a collaborative one and will surely grow ; it is a proof of concept for a club feature, see here.

Hi people. I'd like to create a list of albums with the purpose of being as complete as possible. I'm looking for music that is technical or progressive, although I really don't like when things get out of hand, with crazy vocals in 4 different registers building tension and brutally stoping to yield it to a shredding solo in mixolydian helped by drums in 11/12 which try to imitate the synth syncopation in counterpoint, for ten seconds before jumping into something else.

1. Angra - Angels Cry
2. Angra - Holy Land
3. Angra - Fireworks
4. Angra - Rebirth
5. Angra - Temple Of Shadows

My Favourite Albums of All Time (Ordered) (Updated: Jun-19)

I've been listening to Metal since 2005 and it has become my biggest passion in life.

Rarely a day goes past that I don't listen to it in one form or another. The bands I listened to in my teens inspired me to pick up the guitar (and later drums) and start making music of my own.

Metal means everything to me and I would be lost without it. So in my hunt to discover as many new bands as possible, here are the albums that have stood out and made the largest impact on me:

1. Nine Inch Nails - The Downward Spiral
2. Trivium - Shogun
3. Machine Head - The Blackening
4. Edge Of Sanity - Crimson
5. Opeth - Blackwater Park

Record Of The Year

An attempt to walk through almost 40 years of metal records, trying to pick one (and only one) record each year. The record that should be listened to at least once in life.
Some years are difficult because there are too many classics and in many situations the record that made it in the list is not my favorite by the band, but the one who had weaker competitors (and some of my favorite bands are not in the list too, for the same reason).

1. AC/DC - Back In Black
2. Motörhead - No Sleep 'Til Hammersmith
3. Iron Maiden - The Number Of The Beast
4. Iron Maiden - Piece Of Mind
5. Metallica - Ride The Lightning

Best Album From Each Year

Unfinished as I still have to catch up on more recent years. Also all of the places on the list are of course subject to change as I discover more music from each year.

My taste is very much centred around the power of the riff. That means most of the albums on this list are thrash, death, heavy, black, or some offshoot of those genres.

1. After The Burial - Dig Deep
2. Behemoth - The Satanist
3. Carcass - Surgical Steel
4. Cattle Decapitation - Monolith Of Inhumanity
5. Fleshgod Apocalypse - Agony
