Technical death metal doesn't always have to be such a complex genre, you know? Gorod demonstrates with The Orb how it can be as equally groovy and exciting as it is technical and complex.

It's not my cup of tea but there is some interesting parts which is why I could see some appreciating this way more than me.

It's pretty decent compared to most technical death metal releases I come across. There's lot's of solid grooves and it's pretty well structured and not overly complex. It's not something I can listen to on a regular basis but I admire the musicianship skills that have gone into it.

Pretty surprised that this album is not doing better in terms of rating and attention (at least on MS).
Catchy, technical (but not overwhelmingly so), jazzy, groovy, pretty melodic and most of the time as close to prog as it is to tech death. Great dynamics, too, and songs don't blend into one, each has its own hook and identitiy. Just check out 'We Are the Sun Gods' - it's absolutely infectious! Could be one of the best albums by this very underrated band.
I think it's infinitely more fun than lots of other releases by many of Gorod's more well-known peers

I think it's one of the weakest but it's stil Gorod and I will love it. It's mostly the production that annoys me a lot. They sound way more generic on this record compared to A Maze of Recycled Creeds for instance, the guitar tone has nothing on Æthra's tone (it's still good), bass is less pronounced and the record seems mastered louder in general (I haven't checked).
In terms of songwriting I think there's a small dip as well but nothing major. Also I don't want this comment to reach review-length

They should be on an actual label though, wtf is up with that.

Yeah, I can totally see where you're coming from, especially regarding the production, but maybe it's simply a matter of getting used to the sound and accepting their choices, especially given that the expectations were high and first impressions are bound to be distorted by them. It's just that I'm loving the album more and more with every spin and I can't help fanboying a little bit And I really appreciate the growing prevalence of prog tendencies as opposed to pure tech death (not to say it wasn't brilliant as well), can't help it.

It is indeed weird that they are without a label. Maybe it was a conscious choice to become self-sustained?

I appreciate that they don't use a fretless bass.

Got to see them live last week and they were incredible! Bassist string broke twice.
