Okay. I fucking love this.

My first listen by this band was “PetraDragonic Apocalypse…” and by that time I already knew they were an experimental rock band, and they were known to sound different from each album with some revisits here and there.

First of all I really respect that. I really Think it’s courageous not to stick to a specific sound, but they literally change their sound from album to album. That’s quite commendable. I actually don’t just respect it, I admire it.

In that process if you play good songs, you are sure to gain some fans from different crowds, but either way there will usually also be some hit and misses with different crowds obviously, because we all appreciate different kinds of music.

Me myself is no different. King Gizzard is also a kind of hit or miss band for me. I most certainly don’t like all of their albums. Can’t say I’ve through them all but enough to know.

This album is a Near perfect hit for me. This album takes me back to my childhood and the foundations of my music taste. I’m 30 so when my parents played Records for me as a kid it was primarily rock n’ roll, blues and pop music from the 60’s to the 90’s, and I hear Beatles, 60’s Status Quo, Rolling Stones, early Fleetwood Mac and alot of 60’s and 70’s prog rock influence. I’m feeling like a kid again listening to the album.

Not only is this a pure nostalgia trip for me, but I know good songwriting when I hear it. To me, these songs are catchy, memorable and variated.

But no metal here, people.

This is just good old psychedelic blues rock mixed with alot of heart and fun.

I will end as I started. I fucking love this.

EDIT:

I just read on their Wikipedia page that the album has a similar sound to their previous release “Fishing for Fishies”. Now I know what record to listen to next.

Lot's of 70s bohemian nostalgia in this one, sounds like a mix of The Grateful Dead, The Rolling Stones, Status Quo, Aerosmith, and at times very early Judas Priest. It's one of their most unusual styles yet, but a decent and entertaining album.
