Killswitch Engage - Alive Or Just Breathing

When I listened to the song Just Barely Breathing, I was stunned. It's Awesome!! I just love album... this is one of the best albums I have and just can't stop listening to it.

Indeed, Alive stunned me too.

I wasn't expecting a great comeback from these guys. They really stunned me.

Just Barely Breathing has one of the coolest riffs in the metalcore genre, and I love the chorus in My Last Serenade.

An undisputed classic album in metalcore.

Well this hits the spot for me! By miles and miles the best metalcore album ever made. Very aggressive at points and the cheese on this one is quite delicious.

There are wayyyy better metalcore albums out there. While this was a good listen, and a lot more enjoyable than I expected, it is kind of repetitive and boring sometimes. For possible "best metalcore albums ever" here would be my picks:

Converge - Jane Doe
Burst - Origo
SikTh - The Trees Are Dead And Dried Out, Wait For Something Wild
Zao - Liberate Te Ex Inferis
Between The Buried And Me - Colors
The Secret - Luce

Don't worry though, I liked this album.

Don't worry though, I liked this album.

I am familiar with Jane Doe, Origo and Colours. Gave the other albums a short listen, but I guess that metalcore is just not my genre. I think most metalcore albums tend to be repetitive - unless it's progressive. However, progressive music in general is not my thing either. The reason why I think highly of AOJB is because it has some thrash influences and Jesse Leach is one of very few vocalists who makes metalcore interesting. And, IMO it is not as cheesy as most straight forward metalcore tends to be. It's catchy in a good way. I don't think I will ever find a metalcore album better than this one, but neither am I actively searching for it.

This was the album that defined melodic metalcore. The production isn't great, but it still holds up today.

Killswitch Engage had gone beyond its limit and recorded one of the metalcore albums that was ahead of the time. The best ever was, and the best KE album ever will be.
