When he first launched High On Fire, Matt Pike had to learn to push beyond the doomy confines of Sleep and let loose. Over two decades of ripping thrashy sludge later, High On Fire seem to have shifted their focus slightly back towards heaviness rather than speed this time around.
Was wondering when these guys would hop to it again after Electric Messiah. I think this would be their longest gap between LPs now, but I can’t see that adversely affecting the quality here when their discog has been so consistent already

Hell yeah! The kings of stoner sludge! Can't wait!
Now, I know AI art is controversial, but I think this is a really cool use of it. The constantly morphing images really add to that psychedelic vibe. Who knew AI could understand the feeling of metal music so well

Honestly, I feel the same dude. People were shitting on this on instagram but I thought it looked cool as fuck. I still don't have high hopes for us using AI as a society properly.. this use is the least of my concerns (more concerned with military and Gov't using AI for war and subjugation of the masses).
This is no Snakes For The Divine which is my favourite albums of theirs. And six years since the last album is a long time so you don't really know what to expect, but after an initial listen I must say that I quite like this one and it will be a grower for sure. High On Fire never disappoints.
I've done a reverse marathon of their discog in the past week or so in preparation for this, and on first listens, it delivers what has come to be expected of High On Fire: a mix of rampant thrashy sludge tracks alongside some more dynamic slower cuts. Nothing in either camp stood out to me in the way their best songs have (nothing as memorable as Snakes For The Divine on the fast track front, nothing as emphatic as King Of Days or Steps Of The Ziggurat on the slower front), but it's still a respectable addition to their discog with some cool tracks. The title track and the final song stood out most on first spin

I just played King Of Days and that main riff is nostalgically beautiful. Thanks for the tip!
To be honest I get bored after 35 minutes, This is like 1h , stick on the time, 40 minutes and its ok, otherwise its luck of inspiration and quality . But well well I get trough this.

I better die, because I never will learn speek english, so I choose dieing
Damn, his vocals are especially vile and aggressive on this one! I like the Melechesh-esque oriental instrumental. Other than that, nice intense sludge
It's a pretty solid album overall, nothing groundbreaking but lot's of cool riffs, great drumming, decent vocals, and just a solid all round performance. It's heavy, groovy, and fun, just as I expected it to be tbh. "Hunting Shadows", and "Cometh the Storm" are the highlights for me.
