Biography

The band formed in late 1979 in Pensacola, Florida and toured the state in the thick of the New-Wave-of-British-Heavy-Metal era, gathering a large and loyal following. They released an independent self-titled album in 1986 to excellent reviews. The album earned them airplay on independent radio, the support and airplay of Z-Rock, a nationally syndicated show, and even limited" airplay on mainstream local Florida radio stations. After an arduous run of live shows in the Florida / Georgia region, they released a four-song cassette EP Die Like That and without stopping hit the road again.

Between 1988 and 1992, the band released the Pieces tape consisting of live and studio recordings; two complete music videos; and another four-song cassette EP. All were financed by touring and merchandise sales, and fans were spotted in T-shirts and with bumper stickers on their cars all over Florida.

The temporary decline of the classic metal scene in the mid-'90s provided IRON CROSS a few years' respite to allow individual members to pursue independent projects, but the stick-to-your-guns fans demanded more, so the time off didn't last long.

In the late '90s, IRON CROSS collaborated in the studio to release a double vinyl album on O.P.M. Records limited to 666 copies worldwide. This album sold out within a few weeks after its release. The worldwide response was so tremendous that Iron Glory Records further tapped the band's potential by reissuing their first 1986 album on CD for the first time. Iron Glory states that the first track on the album is "without a doubt one of the best Speed Metal tracks ever!!!" and, naming other tracks, "...also show the band's ability to combine both melodic and powerful, brain crushing elements to form their own style, leading you into their own magical world of evil forces."
IRON CROSS has been compared to bands like Helloween, Angel Witch, Venom, Slayer, and classic Judas Priest and Iron Maiden. To date, they have shared the stage with many major acts, including but not limited to: Death, Agent Steel, St. Vitus, Omen, Exciter, Anvil, Seven Witches, Flotsom and Jetsam, Testament, Ice T & Body Count, Exodus, Obituary, Prong, and M.O.D. IRON CROSS have in the last five years played at regional venues in Florida; at major metal festivals in Tampa, Chicago, Milwaukee, and Kalamazoo in the United States; and at the widely-known German Head Bangers Ball Festival in Europe.
