Some things weren't clear when Vince Neil left The Crue and it is still not clear if Vince Neil decided to go back to Motley Crue or if he was forced to do it by their record company. Anyway, The Crue was working with "Generation Swine" when they decided to fire John Corabi (Neil's replacement) after the poor results they got with their previous album, "Motley Crue". Producer Scott Humphrey, who previously worked with Rob Zombie was hired this time. The Crue really was looking for some kind of sound a la Marilyn Manson, since they also hired his keyboardist, Charlie Clouser. This album was co-produced by Nikki Sixx and Tommy Lee. These guys were impressed by Bob Rock's philosophy, so it was time to use what they had learned.
Well, the results were damn poor, the production work is awful and the songwriting is completely uninspired. The album opener, "Find Myself", is some kind of a recycled tune with an industrial texture and it is here where we can notice the bad production work - you can't hear the drums, you can't hear the bass and the guitar doesn't sound like a guitar. Vince Neil sings his lines and he sounds forced. I suppose these songs weren't meant to be sung by him. Whatever the reason is, he doesn't seem to be glad doing the job. Let's be honest - does anybody want to listen to Tommy Lee singing a song to his son on the piano? Sixx and Lee were really free to do what they wanted to do in the recording room and it was a disaster. The original line up was together again but their trademarks (heavy rhythm sections, funny riffing, dirty vocals) were absent again. None of the tracks are really memorable here, except for "A Rat Like Me", which has some speed. The drums and the bass can actually be heard on this one, but Vince remains uninspired so the song sinks with the rest of the set. There's also an electronic/industrial version of the classic "Shout at the Devil", but nobody in this world is gonna prefer this one to the original 1983 anthem.
The only positive thing about this album is the reunion of the original line up, so we better forget about this set.

Written by K✞ulu on 01.07.2008 at 08:54 Yeah its a big mess pretty much. It sounded like they were going for a semi-industrial sound like rob zombie, but it came out really sloppy and really un-human sounding. Like it was music made from a poorly assembled machine.

Too Fast For Love has a lot of lyrics about living a poor street life (other than drugs), and Dr.Feelgood covers a slightly wider range. Besides I dont focus 100% on lyrics. Do you? I enjoy a lot of blues based rock, why I enjoy Motley Crue riffs, even if they aren't top notch musicians. EDIT: Why did you quote me? Usually when you quote someone its in response to what they commented, but you seemed to just do it out of spite. Bravo.

Written by Doc G. on 15.08.2008 at 07:28 ahh. interesting. no i focus on the lyrics mostly sometimes to be honest, but i listen to the instruments also. needless to say especially in instrumentals and such. and no man i didnt mean that in a critisizing way or anything. i wasnt just trying to quote you but ktulu also. because i read yall conversation and was interested and figured you two knew quite a bit about motley crue. so i asked a question which was in no way meant to be sarcastic. because i dont know much about the crue but i know a lot of glam bands sing about nothing but that sort of stuff.

I think you did a good review of the album, it actually sucks! I prefer the album Motley Crue without Vince compared to this album. (although my favourite singer is Vince). Why not check out Vince soloalbum "Exposed" instead.
