No album has had a bigger musical influence of my own band than this one. A perfect introduction to North Carolina's "dirty" Metal Scene, COC is pure badass. There is nothing slick and shiny about this album just balls to the walls Metal.

Being the first album with rhythm guitarist Pepper Keenan on lead vocal the band left behind the punk element and added a darker Doom factor to the music. This is what Metallica wished they could have made when they recorded Load.

A very good album! Seeing it as a staff pick makes me need to play it!

Great album, and the southern influence is more than a little prominent here. The title track and 'Albatross' are absolutely monstrous.

COC is weird. This, Blind and In The Arms Of God all have songs I love, but the drop off between great tracks and other is massive.

I have that feeling with Blind or the first albums but here I like pretty much every song and love some others. Same goes to Wiseblood.

With that many songs the album is bound to have something good. And to me that is most apparent in songs 'Clean My Wounds' and 'Seven Days'. More often than not a song on this album is good and the skip button can get some rest.

Pretty boring to be honest. Leaning more towards rock than metal. I think there are a lot of other bands from this era doing this sound way better. Why put this on when you could listen to Kyuss?

I think CoC outshine Kyuss quality and quantity wise. They have like 4 or 5 really great albums compared to Kyuss, whose only really good album was Blues For The Red Sun.

I haven’t gone through withers discographies in full, so that wouldn’t surprise me. What CoC album should I try next?

Blind and In The Arms Of God are the best to me, tho take that with a caveat since they do have a similar sound to this one, so if you didn't enjoy this you may not like those. Wiseblood and their latest No Cross No Crown are also quite good. If you want something different, check their early hardcore stuff the Technocracy/Six Songs With Mike Singing EPs and Animosity, the latter especially is filthy hardcore with some of their best songs, even if it's not the most standout.

Often regarded as their best and it's easy to see why, so many of their best songs are featured here, "Heaven's Not Overflowing", "Albatross", "Clean My Wounds", and "Seven Days" in particular, but there's also a few too many fillers.
