Pretty simple, what is your favorite Swedish Death metal band? I only named the famous ones, so I'm assuming other will win as many people have there underground favorites. My vote goes to Dismember- Like an Ever Flowing Stream is a classic, with the opening track being perhaps my favorite death metal song. Full fledged brutality with subtle, yet noticable(spelling?) melody. Not to mention the most deep and insightful song lyircs of all time- SKIN HER FUCKING ALIVE!!!!!!!

Question though. Why did you list Entombed and Nihilist as two separate entities when in fact the only difference between the two is their name.

Hmm, good point. To late to edit it though.

Unleashed, IMO catchiest riffs and solos, consistant vocals, best harmony. Ugh still feel like I'm sleep walking/typing. lol

I'm actually not sure about the order I'd put them in, but the best stuff would be:

Nirvana 2002
Nihilist
Carnage

And then there are some ambigous bands who leaned towards black metal a bit but were still largely associated with the Swedish DM scene (except for Morbid, which was the other way around, being associated with the BM scene but playing thrash/death)

Treblinka
Grotesque
Morbid

Unleashed was a close second for me- They have to be one of the most consistent bands out there, although Where no life Dwells has still gotta be their best.

Yep, Entombed to me was inconsistent as all hell.

Very much so. Also, have you ever listened to Necrophobic? A fairly well known Swedish death/black metal band, who comes just behind Unleashed for me. Should have given them their own poll option... And for a band that I'm 99% sure you don't know- Megaslaughter. Enjoy.

Difficult. Nothing beats early Entombed.
Always liked Vomitory a lot. New album in 2011!
Unleashed, Hypocrisy and Necrophobic are very good too.
Demiurg for the newer stuff.
Anata for the technical stuff...

I'd actually say Unleashed is inconsinstent as hell. Goes from godly on Shadows in the Deep to crap on Warrior.

Seems others don't agree with that either, but then you know French BM is great, wait no it's not!

Oh yea, I mean they weren't bad, just getting stale, still well executed as always.

I'd vote for Dismember. Melody infused old school death metal with a slab of br00tality.

I can't answer the question. All of the bands have produced one classic, a masterpiece, followed mostly by mediocrity. They were all great at one point in their career so I can't really say I have a favourite band, rather favourite albums.

Into the Grave is brutal, raw and very catchy. Clandestine (Yes, I think it's better than Left Hand Path) is probably the most well balanced and well written. Dismember's debut is fantastic but the follow up had quite a weak sound. Carnage's one and only album is some great stuff. I could never get into Unleashed, they don't give me that... Swedish DM feeling. Shadows of the Past, even though it's Sentenced's only DM album, is one of the best in the genre.

Since the question is 'favorite' rather than 'greatest ever', or what have you, I can think of quite a few bands that produce excellent death-metal from Sweden currently, so it's tough to narrow down. Besides Dismember, early Opeth comes to mind... (I know: sue me, lol)

If I had to pick a favorite or three right now (not including the mighty Dismember) it would be: Insision followed by Vomitory, Bloodbath, Interment, and Aeon.

Necrophobic is pretty damn good in their own right, for their style, as said by the above poster, too.

I'd say Entombed, Unleashed or Amon Amarth.
